matt796
Hi, I have recently successfully completed my skills assessment and am moving to the Geelong area on a 187 rsms visa (assuming that the RCB in Geelong approve the sponsor). I will be working as a Hairdresser there and we have two children (6 years old and 16 months old). My partner will initially be at home but will have to find work (he is a Police Officer in the UK). A few MARA agents have informed him as the spouse he will be able to work in Melbourne CBD but obviously I will have to work at the salon in Geelong for at least two years and live in a relevant post code. We are looking at Lara or near by. Any advice on schools or child care? I see that nurseries are around the $100 a day in Geelong. Basically just wondering what anybody's thoughts are about this area etc. We have looked online at Lara Lake Primary school which looks nice but wondering if there is anywhere better? Need to buy a car - any advice on second hand dealers around here etc? Kind Regards

Bellabonkers
I'm in Geelong and love it. I'm also a hairdresser. Which salon are you going for? Highton is where we are and it's fab.

starlight7
It's a good place and close to lots of great beaches. Had a bit of a downturn because of the car industry but seems to be going ok again. Close enough to Melbourne too if you want a big city day out so to speak.
Beaty
Lovely place, Geelong reminded me of my home City in Ireland, easy to navigate with a lovely foreshore amenities. Looking forward to getting back there when we arrive for a swim. B

Lara is a good area, with good links to Geelong, the surf coast and Melbourne as well as being surrounded by some beautiful scenery. I work in Lara, my partner works in Geelong and we live on the Bellarine peninsula. Rex Gorell Ford have a good selection of second hand cars and there are quite a few dealerships in the same area. Happy to offer you any help or advice before or when you arrive if you need it. I can't help with the schools unfortunately, but anything else I'd be glad to.
