I have time for the police and the hard job they have to do, but this type of revenue raising is a bit hard to swallow, they argue it is to tackle the speeding menace surely they could do more via the fines or even custodial sentences for repeat offenders. I am not defending speeding drivers but to constantly go for the easy option just to fill an ever bulging police coffers does very little for public/police relations.

To be fair, with the way that people drive here, it's an absolute revenue gimme. I can't blame them, it's like printing money.

The downside of course is that other, much more serious crime is ignored. But they don't seem too bothered about that.

There is a speed camera on my way to work. People speed up to the camera, slam on their brakes, then floor it. The dangerous bit of road is just after the camera. I have nothing against drivers driving responsibility all the time.

I have many issues with them. First, they are not targeting bad driving - I was fined for doing 102km in a 100 on an empty freeway in the middle of the night.

I agree, but on the way back from plant nursey we drove to the end on the freeway off ramp at Burns beach, the road goes from 100 to 80 to 60 to 40 in the space of a couple of hundred meters, you always get idiots belting passed regardless of the signs, we did today and to our surprise a bike bobby was sat waiting by the train station/new continuation section of the freeway for stupid drivers he caught her lovely, her face was a picture she must have been doing 80 in the reduced 40 zone at the time.

However, being caught by a police officer in a random location. Well I think thats a much better way, active police presence has to be positive.

There is absolutely no doubt that the policing of speeding in Australia is 99% revenue raising. Why not concentrate on the actual bad driving habits of which there are many.

I make it a point to speed on every journey and have only been done twice, once in Aus (stupid, speed camera, my fault for not spotting it) and once in the UK (unmarked car on A1, fair cop since he only booked me for 90 in a 70 when I had been undertaking on a bike at 100+)

 

It's all part of the game. I'm ahead on points and it's my way of sticking it to The Man

Saw 2 crashes on the way home last night, was behind a car for a while with no brake lights, had to slam on at a roundabout near our place as a young girl just drifted across it looking at her phone.

You couldn't make it up. Whatever you do in life, you will never do ANYTHING as dangerous as driving in Australia.

My sister in law was done for doing 3ks over the limit in Geelong, twice by the same cop. Bear in mind that speedometers by law must be accurate to within 10%. Newer cars are still inaccurate.

I have always found Australian drivers to be very aggressive, much more so than drivers here, they seem to lose their minds when they get behind the wheel. There is so little discipline on the roads, pick a lane any lane, indicate if you feel like it, next to no courtesy.

They have got wise to that at the bottom of Toowoomba range, they have the speed trap and then another unmarked car parked 3km further up and if they don't get you there is another 5km further on.

Traffic wardens are just as bad. When I was in Townsville a couple of weeks back for an op my son parked in a disabled put my badge in the window got my chair out, went in to the chemist came back out and we had a ticket for $280 because my badge had fallen down and wasn't displaying the right way up. I have appealed I'm just hoping they see how ludicrous it was.

at least they dont hide like snakes in the UK, the public would not b happy if they were that sneaky...we have signs saying mobile speed traps in operation warning us all over the place, are you not allowed legal speed warning equipment in your car like in the UK?
