Paul1Perth
We have my 84 year old FIL with us at the moment and he paid his bank in the UK 50 pounds a year for a gold visa card (or something like that) and it has travel insurance included. Tell him to look into that. He also doesn't get charged for using his card here.
robfromdublin
Just check the Ts&Cs if taking that approach. I just checked there and my CBA card does not cover the important things for those 80 or over (e.g. medical).
Collie
Hey mate, My folks had the same issue last year (mid 70's) They could only get cover for up to 6 weeks overseas. they thought about taking out 2 separate policies. In the end, I think they went uncovered for a few weeks. He will be coovered by Medicare on the reciprocal health agreements between Australia and UK/Ireland (I'm Dublin too). Dad did go to the hospital to get something checked out, he was very impressed with the speed and service and all for nothing. Hope this helps
