Guest
Need a knee operation ruptured ligaments do not have private cover never really needed it. Seen the specialist paid his fee and the MRI and xray costs in full, told to lose some weight before any operation will happen as the extra costs make it a no go as far as he was concerned. My friend is probably a third heavier again than me as private cover just had both his knees replaced?
Petals
I had my knee replaced in 2012 privately and I was heavy at the time. After having the operation I decided that I did not want to have to have another replacement so I had a gastric sleeve and lost the weight. I now feel confident that my knee will see me out and my other knee which needs replacing may also see me out before time for an op. So weight reduction is the answer in the long run, your friend will get a better outcome if he/she lost weight with new knees.
rammygirl
I do feel private don't care as much about outcomes as long as they get paid. The surgeon is being honest about the weight, you will have a much better outcome and less problems with the other knee. Problem is losing weight when it is painful to excercise, swimming is good though. Aquarobics is fun too. Use a smaller plate to help control portion size and get the family to support you. Guest
Thats just it i am not obese just overweight, and with my knee issue i find it hard to exercise at a level that will take away those few kilos the doc wants off. My point is if i was a paying fully togged member it would have been done by now, i guess money does talk louder than a doctors patient on his conscience? Guest The Pom Queen
You could look at taking out private insurance and wait the 12 months. However, remember that you always have out of pocket fees that can run in to thousands. In some cases I've been lucky and my specialists have done it as no gap but I think that's because I'm a regular and they feel sorry for me lol.
