Country Boy
Hi guys, I've been in Australia almost 2months now (on a permanent 189 visa) so I've arranged most things - drivers licence, TFN, Medicare etc etc. Now I'm looking for work opportunities. I'm currently in Queensland, top of the Sunny Coast area, but would be happy to relocate for the right role. My work experience is very vast from commercial Diesel engines to race cars and performance cars. I can forward a CV and references if required. Any pointers would be much appreciated. calNgary
Get out there and cold call places, sell yourself. There's a diesel place at Gympie if your anywhere near there. Good Luck , there is a shortage of good diesel mechanics ,especially if your on the ball with diagnostics Cal x
Country Boy
Thanks Cal, I've spoken to the main employment agencies and sent out some cv's but not any cold calling yet. I'll give it a whirl, thanks for the advice.
JXJ
create a profile on LinkedIn, search and send friend requests to businesses or people occupying jobs in your area of interest, when they accept tell them you're need help finding a job, you'll create a network in little to no time, something will definitely come up, that's how I did it, I assume you're actively checking on "Seek" as well. I'll give it a whirl, thanks for the advice. If i remember right are you here alone? If so does something like this not take your fancy ? - http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/gayndah/other/gayndah-resident-diesel-fitter-required/1119272232 This too would mean relocating - http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/mackay/automotive-trades/workshop-2ic-diesel-technician/1127037044 Whilst looking at these for you i also saw Amberley Airbase (Ipswich) is looking for mechanics too.. may be worth you searching 'diesel' in 'jobs' on Gumtree, i just put QLD as location. Lots of the smaller companys you will find, wont use agents or sites like Seek, they will go to Gumtree and the such as its free to advertise.lol. Hope these help a bit Cal x
Country Boy
That's great advice once again Cal! I've applied through hays for the Amberley job, but hays are very slow at even returning calls, yet they were keen to sign me up for migration in their London office in the U.K.! Yes I'm a free agent here so relocating isn't an issue for the right role. I'll take a look on gumtree. Thanks!

Country Boy
Hi Bakerz, not yet and I'm still looking. Seems to be quiet unless you want to be in Brisbane. You should be ok coming from a commercial background as several jobs around for that. Most of my experience has been light vehicle, performance and 4x4 work with some truck stuff from years ago. Bakerz
I'd love to just get on a plane now and start what your doing but I also have to get my family sorted too so thinking maybe secure a job first or is this impossible?? You seem to be going the right way about it, is it much work to get your drivers licence Medicare and tfn sorted?? Thanks Bakerz
Country Boy
I would say getting a job without being here is going to be near impossible. They will require you to have tfn, drivers licence etc all sorted. It's not difficult to sort out, just make sure you have the paperwork in order then it's a little bit of a goose chase putting it all together. Probably the toughest part is not having all your tools to get a job with until shipping arrives.
