Northmavine14
If you've already got the 35 years then it probably doesn't affect you, BUT I have a pension forecast from the UK pensions office saying that once I'm resident in the UK, I can apply to have my years of work in Australia recognised towards the UK pension. That is completely different from them checking to see whether I'm getting an Australian pension. It's getting years of residence in Australia recognised as equivalent to having paid NI contributions. You can only claim the years pre-2001 though. Nothing like a bit of conflicting advice to make you feel confident in the system!! :arghh: The person I spoke to was quite adamant that I couldn't do anything about it until I actually applied for my State Pension and then they would investigate. However, because of the 35 years I already have it wouldn't make any difference (allegedly!!) Good luck with your investigations and applications and hope it all works out for you! It's conflicting in the sense that your adviser said THEY would do all the work of investigating, which is not what my letter says. My letter says the onus is on me to provide them with the proof. It may well be that I can't apply until I'm of pensionable age, happy to wait till then anyway. If you want to get some certainty on what you'll get with your current years, then apply for a pension forecast - you can get that any time.
