Tra skills assessment

Hi all:

I´m new here, this is my first post. Not very good at it...

I´m a carpenter, 36 years old. I´m sponsored at the moment, but I need to apply for PR asap. I´ve just been on the 457 since January, so if I want to apply for PR I´ll have to take an skill assessment thru TRA.

I don´t hold any certificate or qualification from back home. I have an AQF issued by RPL, so they ask me for 6 years of experience. Here comes the problem: I can get payslips for those 6 years, from three different companies, plus from my current employer. The problem is that 2 of those companies closed down years ago because of the recession. I might be able to get references from them, but I don´t know if it will work if they find out, or google the companies and can´t find much.

I also can´t really proof payments for those full six years, due many of the jobs where cash jobs...

I´m also a bit lost with the details of my employment history in my own words, and my agent said the references and statements I used for the 457 are not good enough for this application, as they will need much more detail.

I´m completely overwhelmed by the situation, and in need of a second opinion. Any advice will be much appreciate it, even if is not related with what i´m asking, as I´m sure I´m forgetting and missing many many things here.

Thanks for your time and your help.

Best regards

Adrian

This might help:

TRA does not view information submitted in a statutory declaration in the same way as it views verifiable third party evidence. This is why statutory declarations must be supported by other independent evidence. For example, if an applicant cannot obtain an employment statement from their employer (refer section 2.8.6), the applicant may choose to submit a statutory declaration detailing the information that would otherwise be in the employment statement and why the employment statement could not be obtained. If the applicant chose to do this, the applicant would also need to submit further evidence of the claims made in the statutory declaration, such as an official job description, a contract of employment and an official description of the business. The assessor will determine whether, taken together, this information is sufficient evidence to support claims without an employer statement. Please also note that statutory declarations will not be accepted in place of a qualification or award certificate (refer section 2.6.1). A statutory declaration will also not be accepted in place of an academic transcript (refer section 2.6.1), without further supporting evidence to demonstrate that the applicant undertook the units relevant to the appropriate Australian qualification in the applicant’s nominated occupation.

Why is your agent not suggesting ways to solve the problem? What are you paying them for!
