Skani
That's a "length of a piece of string" question. For some it's good, for some it's bad. Firstly, you need to know whether you have an occupation which is eligible for a work visa in Australia. Go to https://www.border.gov.au/ and look for skilled occupation lists - SOL and CSOL
Guest
Everyones experience is going to be subjective. Some more info might be of use to people to help them reply. As in what line of work you will be in, whereabouts you hope to live, your age, i.e, 20's, 30's older, if its a long term move or a temp one (ie what visa are you looking at).... Parley
I will hazard a guess that he was born in 1990 snifter.
calNgary
Welcome to PIO, Lots of people successfully move to Aus and enjoy their new lives, for some it doesnt work and they return to the UK. For some success stories have a read of this thread - http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/news-chat-dilemmas/193833-positive-emigrating-australia-true-life-stories.html Cal x
Kirstyj
The advise as above, for us we love it, yes it has been difficult but we are glad we did it x
Quoll
It was great for 20 years but then it began to pall and I couldn't wait to escape but those first 20 years were an adventure, work was good, interest rates were too high but we had good careers - situation has changed lately though and it is no longer essentially the "Lucky Country". Can you get a visa to work in Australia? Start at the beginning because if you aren't eligible to get a visa then the rest is a waste of time and energy. roborac
Love our life here after 34 years of leaving the UK Go back regularly to visit family and still feel we made a good move But it is so different for many people But I really think you should give it a go, better than living with regrets
VERYSTORMY
We liked it, but have moved back - mainly due to work. Financially, it was a bad move to move to Oz, but overall glad we did it as it was a good experience, but we wouldn't go back.
InkBlots
If you qualify for the relevant visa, Australia is well worth the experience. The rest depends on your own efforts. I was a £10 Pom and arrived there when the cities were much smaller, so over many years I witnessed the country's amazing development and population increase. Australia will have its ups and downs but will continue to grow, new migrants are a necessity. Edited August 20, 2016 by InkBlots
Bobj
Came over in 1963 and have had a marvellous life... Bugga!! STILL having a marvellous life. It is what you make of it, rather than what Joe Blow reckons. Cheers, Bobj.
ChrisH1
I have a wonderful life. I live in far north Queensland, where everyday I see people who have travelled half way around the world to see where I call home. However, I know several people who also lived here, but with different expectations and aspirations have decided to return to the UK. So I think it is very important to have a very clear understanding of: what you want; what you are prepared not to have; and what different experiences and opportunities in Australia will successfully replace those that could have been realised in the UK.
