conor mcgregor - carrying the weight of a nation

Recommended Posts

If you are Irish and you don't know who this guy is ,where have you been ?.

Dublin born McGregor is the ufc world featherweight mixed martial arts champion.

He's drawing huge support ,fighting to sell out crowds in the states

He tells it like it is ,he's a bit of a character .

His previous against an unbeaten fighter ,lasted 38 seconds .

He told the guy what he was going to do ,and he done it.

He fights again Saturday in the states, and the Irish support will be out in force.

Just to add .

I know this stuff is not everyone's cup of tea .

But this guy is not only making himself wealthy ,he's making his opponents wealthy as well.

His latest opponent is on 1 million dollars for the fight .

Fair play to all concerned

I know it is popular with some, but I find it very distasteful.

Glorifying and encourages brutal violence.

I wouldn't consider it a real sport myself.

I suppose some would love it if we brought back gladiator fights to the death.

I want it all, and I want it now.

From the little I have seen when channel surfing on tv, it's just violent brawling trying to legitimise itself by including the words "martial arts" in the description. There's not much in the way of martial arts on display.

Coming from an Irish family he's my man! But agree it's not everyone's cup of tea, I enjoy the hype that goes with him and he's becoming very wealthy. A shrewd cookie I'd suggest!

He's avoiding no one ...moving up the weights if necessary ,making himself and his opponents wealthy ..good luck to him .

I wouldn't even call his banter " hype " ..i think that's the way he is .....a true fighting man .

I don't like it.

The issue with boxing was always mismatches and fans not getting value for money. These things can last, as you say, 38 seconds.

Rhonda Rousey lasted just over 1 round and we had 2 months of build-up.

I like Mcgregor because he's different, but they're all just trying to stuff their bank accounts because they know that anybody can get knocked out with one punch in those gloves.

If you can get past the hype, there's not much of a product behind it.

Yeah, they're lightly padded but you keep your fingers free.

Aldo lasted 13 seconds, first punch. At least with boxing gloves he may have got a count and time to recover his wits.

Tickets were between $400 and $1000.
