Preferably cheap! I'm going to treat myself to rottnest obviously and I'm going to try get to the wildlife park. I'll go back to kings park too since it was only a flying visit, probably try go both day and night for different pictures. Any other suggestions? mouse Posted January 4, 2016 Share Posted January 4, 2016 (edited) You should be here for Fringe World which is fantastic - lots of choices and many of them free. The city (especially Northbridge) really comes alive for this with lots of pop-up bars and entertainment areas. Rotto is an absolute must. Make sure you hire a bike even if you're not that energetic normally as it's relatively easy-going and means you get to enjoy the whole island. My Dad who is in his mid-60s did it and had a ball. If you haven't already been the Swan Valley is definitely worth a trip. If you have a car start in Guildford (the Rose and Crown is great for lunch) and then go from there. Lots of wineries, a few breweries and plenty of places where you can grab fruit and veg. That can be as cheap as you need it to be. Sunday session down at Cottesloe is always fun. Free day on the beach and then splash out on a pizza and a few wines at the Cott Hotel. Wander up and down Beaufort St - lots of cafes and bars and independent shops for window shopping. On Sunday's you can get a pizza and a pint for $10 at The Flying Scotsman at the top end. Good student hang-out and more of an alternative crowd. Freo - do the prison tour if you haven't already. Lunch and/or dinner at Little Creatures or the Norfolk. Go on a weekend for the markets and street entertainment. Try out one of the outdoor movies. I love the Northbridge venue (on top of a car park with views of the skyscrapers, deck-chairs and chinese lanterns) but there are other ones in Kings Park, one of the universities and Leederville I think. If you like jazz, you can now book the Jazz Cellar in Mount Hawthorn. This place is a bit of an institution - you enter through an old phone box and best of all its BYO so a relatively cheap night. Lazy Susan's Comedy Den at the Brisbane Hotel (easily walkable from the City) would be another fun night. The Saturday night show has more established comedians but if you go on a Tuesday it's only $5. Stay away from the bars in the City (some in Northbridge are ok) if you're trying to save money. I love a lot of them but my purse really doesn't! Further afield - hire a car or do day tours to the Pinnacles and you ABSOLUTELY MUST go down to Margaret River region. So beautiful. Oh and last thing - try out some Yum Cha in the city for breakfast one day. Pay by the number of bowls you grab from the trolley but always cheap no matter how much you get through! And more as I've realised I've posted a lot of food and drinks. The hostel I'm staying in is at northbridge, haven't booked it yet though. Yeah I've been told I need to get a bike, I haven't been on a bike for like 10 years so this should be interesting lol. Not been to swan valley but I don't have a car. I'll maybe post on the backpacker page and see if anybody fancies a trip at some point, maybe also to Margaret river for a night or 2. Haven't been to the prison yet either, I did pop into little creatures but it was to see about a job. Definitely planning on a day in freo. Im definitely planning on staying away from bars, can't afford to spend my money on alcohol. Maybe treat myself to 1 or 2 but that's about it. What's yum cha?! I really really want to go see the lion king but I'll have to see how the budget is. Hillary boat habour they have water that I was not worried about swimming in and some lovely cafes. Western Australia museum Stroll around Fremantle Whiteman Wildlife park - We loved getting up close to the Kangaroos etc there is also other stuff around there too we preferred this place then Perth zoo. Rockingham and Mandurah for a lazy stroll, a cafe for lunch we also went to Penguin island when we visited Rockingham. Kings Park both day time and night time Chocolate factory and the wineries in Swan Valley Up the hills to visit Miundaring Bell Tower Royal mint We visited the Pinnacles and Busselton (Though they were a few hours drive out of Perth) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Is whiteman better than caversham? I haven't heard of that one before. I'm definitely thinking of visiting rockingham and mandurah. Probably won't be bored in the 2 weeks! bell123321 Posted January 4, 2016 Share Posted January 4, 2016 Sorry if I confused you its the same place. Just had a look its $27 for Caversham, Perth zoo is $29. I preferred Caversham out of the two if I was only going to do one of them (Due to being able to get close up to the animals etc). There are also other attractions near by to Caversham I remember a motor museum, an old train ride we went on and a small little village with a few cute shops. I remember getting an awesome poster from the print shop there as a gift. I doubt your get bored in the 2 weeks, we have done 6 weeks in Perth in total and still find stuff to see and do :-) Hope you have a fabulous time! flag of convenience Posted January 5, 2016 Share Posted January 5, 2016 Perth is hardly a tourist city but a couple of weeks will be easy to fill in keeping it cheap by not going to too many big ticket items. Kings Park and beaches are of course free. Hiring of a bicycle and going around the river. There are numerous cycle trips you can make. Check out the routes. Less 10km, about 2 hours walk, including unlimited swimming! You can walk along beaches, visit some nice cafes for break/lunch, the Mettams pool is good for snorkeling too, if it's not windy and you have gear. Bibbs Posted January 5, 2016 Share Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) In the CBD(ish) area - Kings Park, Bell Tower, Perth Mint, Margaret River Chocolate Company (Swan Valley), Hillarys, Casino, Sport (depends when you are here, but AFL/Cricket/Basketball/Football/Tennis/Sailing/Surfing/V8SC), Freo markets, Freo harbour, Mandurah habour, Mandurah canals (boating), Serpentine dam (and Millbrook), Perth museum, Whiteman park, Pinaroo park, Cohunu park, Armadale reptile center, Adventure World, Core Cider House (Pickering Brook) .. Then you have Margaret River down south with the wine region, the caves, lighthouses etc. Pinnacales up north, and Wave Rock out east. Hence a lot that has been mentioned will be too expensive to contemplate. Remember they have the country to travel around and hardly want to spend savings on things hardly unique to Perth. Just getting a good feel of the vibe of Perth. What makes it tick. Its sense of self. Environment.
