Quote
Hi all, I’ve had conflicting information from fiends, colleagues and Form 1300T so hoping one / some of you can provide clarification / link me to a thread in which this as been previously asked many times: The minimum time-frame before I can apply for Australian citizenship from a 186 visa? How long do I need to stay on my 186 before I ally for citizenship and does this depend on ceremony dates at all? I arrived in Australia in July 2011 (4 years 3 months ago) on a 457 visa. Full time employment for 4 years. Recent transitioned to a 186 visa – Have been on this for about 2 weeks. I have been with my current employer 2 years and 8 months. Live in Melbourne. Apologies, my knowledge of this next step of the process is limited. Thanks in advance Sean
pickmeup
If you have been granted residency (186 visa) 2 weeks ago then you can apply for citizenship next year. You will need to be at least 4 yrs in Australia (regardless of any visa as long as lawful) and at least 1 yr permanent resident.
Joy Hay
Hi, You also need to have spent at least 36 months (of the 48 months) in Australia, and no more than 90 days outside Australia in the final 12 months. Joy
