Travelling around Aus whilst waiting for visa to finalise???

This possibly should have been titled living dangerously, or some might argue living stupidly  , but right now this is just a thought and I really wanted to get the views from you guys as to whether this is feasible.

All opinions welcome!!

So firstly to explain, I guess we slightly miscalculated how long the visa would take to come through and we were previously hoping for first part of next year, but going on the timescale at present, it will be more like halfway through next year.

Unfortunatley (or maybe not) we've already set the wheels in motion by arranging to chuck in our jobs to go do 3 months skiing. When we get back we had hoped to have just changed suitcases (so to speak) and then go off to Oz but now as it's unlikely we'll have the visas by then, we need something to do whilst we wait (as neither of us can go back to work).

So, here it is: The only place we really want to go is to Oz. We'd love to spend a few months travelling round first whilst waiting for the visas to finalise. Is this even possible or are we dreaming??

Could we realistically pre-load our medicals/police checks and go off to Oz travelling. Wait until they request passports and then skip over to New Zealand, courier them to a parent in UK, have then courier to the embassy, and the same to get them back to us and then arrive back in Oz to get visas validated?

How risky is this? From what I can tell, most people don't seem to get asked to produce anything else, and we would have the money to get a flight back if we had to, but we'd want to go knowing that the odds were in our favour that's it more likely we wouldn't need to return.

Any advise,comments/thoughts welcome!!!

Hi

We're as mad as you - doing exactly same thing!!!

We suffered several months delay with TRA & by then had already promised kids a long awaited Xmas & New Year in Bali. The plan was that hopefully everything would be through and we could then head straight on to Perth to settle in.

We've now amended our plans to become a 6 month RTW trip with the kids. The house & one of our businesses have been sold so we decided what the hell! We're not risking staying in Oz & hopping over to New Zealand though as we were advised by our agent that we would need to designate where we were picking up our visas. Didn't want to risk over staying our tourist visa in Australia if there were any more delays (although we're really hoping that we'll hear in Jan/Feb). It was actually much cheaper to get a round the world ticket than a there and back with various stop offs. If we do get to hear while we're in Perth we're hoping to courier passports etc back to London as you suggest & then hopefully we can validate them (although we still have to check this with agent) while we're there and no huge rush to get back then after our trip. Not that we'll want to hang around by that time but at least we have more freedom and time.

Best wishes with your plans

Well it's good to know someone is as mad as us! Please do let me know what your agent thinks about it all

The only reason for hopping over to New Zealand was that I heard you need to come into the country to validate the passport, therefore, you need to go out first! Could be wrong......

Hello Watersports

We Had the same Idea (I've calmed down abit now.) itchy feet. My main concern was what if we did not get the visa what then? Would have been very hard to pick up the peices, come home and get on with life back in mother England knowing the dream was over after living a life of reily on some tropical beach. Are you sure you'll definatly get the visa?

Keep me informed I wish I had the guts.

Good Luck John

It's a very good point, and no we're not 100% sure we'll get it, but I guess we're fairly hopeful and we've both always wanted to travel around Aus anyway. We did discuss what we would do if we didn't get it, and that was to travel the world so it certainly wouldn't be a waste - although I would probably kick a few Ozzies in anger!

Same goes....

... we've decided to leave where we are anyway so even if we don't get to Oz as perm. ressies we'll be going somewhere. By travelling round the world it gives us a few ideas!!!!

best of luck all
