JULIE RYCROFT
We are shippshipped our things over next week and had to fill in a form and list items less than 12 months old. We have some new items. Bed fridge freezer being the newest. Will we have to pay tax on these things. Are we looking at a lot of money

NicF
I think for the purposes of shipping we didn't have anything that was less than 12 months old.
Bethm
Us too, everything was more than 12 months- we had a couple of things in boxes unopened but they were just small items!
dmjg
Everything we had was used therefore was more than the twelve months old too......... Except we had a brand new vacuum cleaner in the box. It saved me cleaning out the old one which would have been difficult. It was the only new item i put on the paperwork. Obviously we knew we were going to immigrate, therefore we had ensured we didnt buy anything new within that year, mr customs officer! Mxmanus
We brought loads of "new" stuff in our container. Just open the boxes and take price details off boxes etc didn't claim anything as new and everything got through ok

They are worried about people bringing in wholesale quantities of new things in boxes for immediate resale. Just remove the boxes and assume it is over 12 months old. Suzukiscottie
We declared a new fridge and freezer, mainly because they were still in the manufacturers packaging, clearly new and unused. We were rightly charged duty on these items.
