Hi all.

Currently trying to get the outlaws through the 143 visa process.

I was looking online to try and find advice regarding the timings of the medicals and police checks.

I came across what appears to be quite a helpful guide for those wanting to apply for a 143 visa.

Before i posted it on here I wanted to check if a couple of points were correct.

In the guide he states that the medical and police checks still need to be valid (eg done in the last 12 months) on the day the visa is 'activated' in australia.

Personally, I thought that as long as your police check and medical were valid when your visa was issued you had 12 months from the date of issue to activate your visa (regardless of the age of your pc and meds).

What does anyone else think? Who is correct?

(please say me or it's gonna be panic stations in our house!)

Cheers

Not absolutely sure about a 143 but even for a normal PR visa like 189 you don't get 12 months from Visa Issue, you get 12 months (usually) from the date of the police check or medical whatever you did first. And they have to be valid when you enter, thats why 1its 12 months from the date they are done.

I suspect that you are mistaken. When the visa is granted it will have a validation date that will be 12 months from the date of medicals or police checks, whichever is the earlier. It will not be 12 months from the visa grant.

Bugger! I really wanted that to be wrong!

I'm doing the application but the inlaws are 'being helpful' by getting their medicals and police checks done early.

I told them not to do so until they had a case officer (which based on queue information is still 8 months ish away).

Luckily(?) it looks as though there are going to be complications with the mother in laws medical so I'll get them to go as slow as possible providing the extra information required and they'll have to get another police check once the case officer is assigned.

Otherwise they are going to have very little time to validate the visa.

Bit annoying they should make that far clearer at the outset but is one of many flaws to the system I'd say!

Thanks for your help guys.

I think the system makes it as clear as it can, that medicals should be done upon request. Unfortunately some people cannot wait and it leads to this predicament.

For subclass 143 there are two 'medical' dates.

Hi

May I ask what you mean by two medical dates?

Regards

Steve

CPV 143 lodgement date 1 July 2014 1st VAC paid 23 September 2014 Acknowledgement 12 February 2015 AOS 22 April 2016 Medical 19 March 2016 Police checks 29 February 2016

Form 80 17 November 2016 2nd VAC requested 7 December 2016 Visa granted 15 December 2016

I thought that was more for the slower parent visas to be honest. When a visa has a long processing time, there is a medical at the beginning to get a queue date and then a medical later on to ensure nothing has changed since the earlier medical.

I believe you are correct, there is only 1 medical required for a 143 CPV as far AS I CAN SEE.
