189 take the plunge or WHV first?

Hi all,

My fiancé is a carpenter/joiner and we qualify for subclass 189. We have the funds aside to apply for our residency and come to make a go of a life in Perth. My mother's best friend lives in perth and we are starting with her as a base.

Our question is... do we take the plunge and go for a 189 visa from the UK having never visited the country before? Or do we go on a Working holiday visa and if we get there and fall in love, apply straight away? I know it can be done from inside oz.

Any advise is much appreciated!!

Thank you

Katie

Apply for your 189 visa. If you don't like it in Australia, you can still go home, but, statistically, that is unlikely, (unless you are looking at the Poms In OZ 'statistics', which might give the impression that for every happy little Vegemite, there are nine who hate OZ!)

If you've never been to Australia before, I'd advise you to get the WHVs first. You'll probably love it here but Australia isn't for everyone and you may find that one or both of you is in the 'not for me' group. If getting a 189 were an inexpensive and simple exercise, either way would be fine but it's anything but that. It costs no more to apply for a 189 in Australia and you'll have plenty of time to get an application lodged if you decide to go for it.
