English People are German, French, Danish, and Belgian. Discuss...

Recommended Posts

"The analysis shows that the Anglo-Saxons were the only conquering force, around 400-500 AD, to substantially alter the country’s genetic makeup, with most white British people now owing almost 30% of their DNA to the ancestors of modern-day Germans.

People living in southern and central England today typically share about 40% of their DNA with the French, 11% with the Danes and 9% with the Belgians, the study of more than 2,000 people found. The French contribution was not linked to the Norman invasion of 1066, however, but a previously unknown wave of migration to Britain some time after then end of the last Ice Age nearly 10,000 years ago."

So, the 'Germans' really were 'The Master Race' after all. In fact, Hitler did not need to try to invade Britain. His ancestors had already done the job 1500 years before.

It does make you wonder why other races would be so keen on moving to Britain though, knowing that our dominant traits are 'German!'

I was initially surprised that there wasn't some Italian in there too with the Roman conquest (though I suppose most of their soldiers were not actually Italian).

Italian/Irish :cute: and a teaspoon of English too

And the end of all our exploring will be to arrive at where we started, and know the place for the first time.

yep, most Anglo Saxon Brits are from Northern European stock (think Vikings etc...) way back. Sadly nobody has looked into my family tree far enough back to get beyond Irish people living in Sunderland or South Wales / North Devon stock. My family were not big travellers in past generations!

The only real story here is how little the Brits have moved around within the UK. We've known for a long time that English DNA is German/Dutch the more east you go in the country and the reason why is obvious. I've been reading Donnelly's stuff for a long time - he's done some interesting work on Celtic DNA patterns.

A good socialist response. Nothing intelligent to say, so just be rude.

English/Welsh. French going right back on one side ( pre 12th century). I think all humans were from Africa in the beginning, isn't that what they found? Got a bit pale because of the cold weather I guess. Most Londoners I grew up with ( parents generation) rarely travelled beyond their little bit of London except for Summer hols down to Brighton or something. No one went 'abroad' and the most exotic place was Cornwall. How things change.

Apart from one trip to Yorkshire my Dad never left Scotland  He worked on a farm seven days a week - loved it - and had absolutely no interest in travel.

Sounds like my Dad- then he emigrated to Australia aged 80! He went o/seas in the War and that was enough for him, never, ever again until Mum died.
