Jersey2Sydney 11 Posted March 19, 2015 Dear All, I am trying to search for schools in Melbourne and cannot find any one comprehensive and useful website! I know which suburbs I want to search in but unlike the NSW websites there does not appear to be a complete list on the Australian Schools Directory nor on the City of Melbourne website. The NSW site links to schools individual websites...perhaps Melbourne schools don't have websites though this seems unlikely. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Jersey2Sydney 11 Posted March 19, 2015 Which areas are you looking at? Primary and/or secondary? Private or state? we are looking to live from St Kilda West, down along the coast through Elwood and Brighton as far down as Sandringham. I am happy to come inland an acceptable distance for schools. Our children currently attend a fee paying co-ed primary but we are happy to look at state schools too - at the moment we only require primary from early learning 4 year old age. That said we like the idea of a straight through school for the children so an early learning through to year 12 is also an option. My main issue is that I cannot find local state school websites....only a few seem to have a 'feature' page on the Australian School Directory. Thank you. subclass 190 PR visas granted 1Nov13, activated Aug14. Perth Jan-Jul17. Returned Perth Aug21
caramac 2,048 Posted March 19, 2015 http://www.elwoodprimary.vic.edu.au http://www.stcolumbasprimary.org http://stkildaps.vic.edu.au http://www.skipps.vic.edu.au https://www.stmichaels.vic.edu.au I found these if they're any use? I just googled 'schools in....' and these ones came up. When I was looking for schools I googled 'public/independent schools in Sydney/Perth/Melbourne' and got a pretty comprehensive list. Good luck! Petals 4,258 Posted March 19, 2015 They do have web sites and if you look at the Victorian Education Department there is information there about public schools. If you want Private there is a site for private schools. Failing that if you live here and have a Melway then all the schools are listed in the back. Councils also have information about the schools in their areas. Petals :ssign15:taking no prisoners
Skani 5,167 Posted March 19, 2015 You can search by suburb at this site: http://www.myschool.edu.au/ Each school listed has a link to its own website.
irinagem 10 Posted March 19, 2015 I found there are all the schools websites on this site- as well as ratings- http://bettereducation.com.au/school/Primary/vic/melbourne_top_government_primary_schools.aspx you can see on the top you can choose state schools, non-government schools etc Now if someone can point me in the direction of exact catchment zones (like on a map) that would be fabulous- we are starting in Mentone/Parkdale and there seems to be 4 schools- just need to see if they are zoned/ whose zone are we in exactly and can we try and apply for a different one... Jersey2Sydney 11 Posted March 20, 2015 Thank you everyone - I had found and used all these sites. I think my enquiry was more about find the 'one' website with all the information as comprehensive as the NSW one. But it appears you need to dig a little deeper and cross reference a few sites. subclass 190 PR visas granted 1Nov13, activated Aug14. Perth Jan-Jul17. Somtimes, if you search for 'zone for... School' Google will find the map for you, if the school website doesn't have it.
starlight7 4,196 Posted March 30, 2015 If you are talking about primary schools probably 99% of them are ok- especially in those areas you mentioned so I wouldn't stress too much. If it is at High school level you need to do your homework but again, those areas are pretty good so the schools shouldn't be too hairy!
