Jacaranda 1,352 Posted March 11, 2015 So I was at work yesterday, and got talking to this guy from East Africa. He recognised my accent (aussie)and mentioned he had mates in Oz.(Sydney)He then started talking to me about possible ways he could emigrate to Australia.(He is married with a child)We went through the options, which from what he's told me,are pretty much zilch (no skills on either side).he then said (quote) "Well what if I get one of my aussie friends to pose as my partner, and I can do it that way"?After the shock (lol)I then told him to forget it as immi would obviously want proof, stat dec's and so on and he replied "Well I can get those, with some help from my friends?Unbelievable!I asked him about his wife and child and he said his his relationship was rocky and that he would be willing to leave them to get into Australia?Nice hey? Please someone tell me its not possible for him to lie his way in??? fifi69 3,433 Posted March 11, 2015 You must be able to lie your way in......that is my only conclusion from dealing with people who live here with the social skills of a plant pot  honestly though, there must be many loopholes, cos I read this forum and get told one one thing re immi, but what's around me us another thing. Poms that on paper haven't a hope in hell of getting here....up n running, and living life to the max, visa sorted no probs. yes I don't know how either?? as for the ones that don't speak English:unsure: seems the same. I work in customer services here, honestly the amount of people that are here that can only friggin grunt is amazing  They are such hard work. come to a English speaking country, then learn to speak English
Jacaranda 1,352 Posted March 11, 2015 What worries me is he was deadly serious?Ive got a good mind(lol)to get his last name, and mention him to Immi just in case?Feasible?I really dislike grassing people up,but maybe its justified in this case? What do you think? Guest51810 11,261 Posted March 11, 2015 I honestly don't think I could ever do the whole marry for a visa thing. I'd feel far too guilty and I would just spend the whole time worrying I'd get caught. It's just not my thing even though I might occasionally joke about it

Why snitch? Right or wrong, it's not like he will be hurting anyone. If he can beat the system then good for him. He probably won't tho
Jacaranda 1,352 Posted March 11, 2015 Why snitch? What about all those people who have to jump through hoops for a visa as in skilled? Not to mention the dishonesty of it all?Doesnt seem fair to me.Ah well maybe its best to turn a blind eye then? Quoll 6,231 Posted March 11, 2015 I'd be inclined to snitch but, then, I dislike liars and cheats. For every cheating liar who takes up a spot there is an honest person who misses out.

Parley 7,908 Posted March 11, 2015 I think it happens a lot. A lot of filipino brides and the like. I think a lot of so called relationships break up when they are settled in Australia. If someone offers you $10K to help them come to your country, some would do it. Have you seen the movie Green Card ? Buy a man eat fish. The Day, Teach Man, to lifetime. - Joe Biden. I'm a bit surprised that you are surprised to be honest. Fraud marriages have long been part of the immigration process. I've known a few myself over the years who done it to remain in UK actually. One paid GBP 2,000 back in early 90's to do so. Where there is a will there is always a way.

Especially when English speakers are probably the worst in the world to learn another language. The grunters IMO are just as likely to be locals with limited social skills. Un Australian to dob in, snitch or grass up. Or once at one time. Immigration is but a business anyway. Rich with 5 million to invest can buy their way into the country and offer nothing in skills but invest just as likely corrupt money. People have been entering on forged qualifications. The rorts that go on with international students and 457's. There's a lot to get hot under the collar about with Australia's immigration policy, or lack of policy in many places. From what you say he has only mentioned a possible way he could enter the country. Hardly new. Plenty of Back Packers talk in similar tones. If on the other hand you work in immigration detection........

Skani 5,407 Posted March 11, 2015 Please someone tell me its not possible for him to lie his way in??? It certainly happens but DIBP is very alert to these types of scams. I worked once with an Australian who was married to a Kenyan woman. He then went to Kenya and married her sister so that she could also enter Australia. He was eventually gaoled for bigamy and immigration fraud. This was in the 1980s before computer records and data matching made it much easier to detect this kind of fraud. Especially when English speakers are probably the worst in the world to learn another language. luke22 10 Posted March 11, 2015 largest group of migrants are now from china and india. learn to speak english ? why ? perhaps we might all learn the indigenous language. why should we not learn that ? after all its their land. oh yeah because a load of brits decided that. english will remain the primary language but some here seem offended about poorer people coming over and relating to each other in their own language. If your 1000 miles from home I would keep my language and speak english. this will be a republic one day and in another 100 years i hope britishness will be respected but a lot less dominant. Parley 7,908 Posted March 11, 2015 Bit of a silly point Luke as over 80% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people speak only English at home. Buy a man eat fish. The Day, Teach Man, to lifetime. - Joe Biden.
flag of convenience 3,987 Posted March 12, 2015 people should learn the language of their adopted country. my parents learned to speak english better than most brits. My point being English speakers are worse in doing so. They expect/hope the world speaks English around them. Spain being a classic but far from only example. canadianaussie 11 Posted March 12, 2015 I know 1 person who has done something similar. Arrived on a WHV and moved in with a friend who has PR, then after a year applied for defacto as a couple. Even though they weren't a couple. Defacto granted, and they actually continue to co-habitate as flatmates. Ethically its wrong. I really like both of them though so couldn't turn them in.
