Far right marchers massively outnumbered in Newcastle

Recommended Posts

They will probably have some supporters but I think if people turn up like Newcastle then most will be against it and there might be some trouble. Maybe they won't come, it was only something I read on twitter but it's the front page of one of the papers tomorrow

Oh it's Edinburgh they are planning on coming to, I thought it might be Glasgow. It's a shame that so much police time will have to be used for security

I have no idea what your reading material is but I rarely look at the broadsheets and never read tabloids, ever. When I choose to look at the news I read sites like Reuters or Bloomberg for the main, and my political opinions are formed by the study of political philosophy from Plato up, but focusing more on modern stuff like Hobbes. The rise of the far right is visible everywhere, even in Sweden, and will become more apparent as the Muslim populations grow across Europe. It's ABC stuff.

Very varied and in different languages but hardly of interest. No the rise of the Right is clichéd and not of recent development. It has been around a long time and rises and ebbs as the tide. As I noted The Right has mellowed in France since daughter took over from father. Sweden returned to left governance after a failed trial of centre right government. The Keep Sweden Swedish were around in the 80's and talk on the streets was they were a growing organisation way back then.

No afraid it is The Left of recent in the European theatre not to mention Latin America. Outside of France, (hardly new and a strong Left on the other hand)Hungary perhaps just where do you feel this right wing stuff is anywhere a greater influence than Left in shaping politics. While I agree fear has been stirred up it is very far removed from ABC stuff or trivialising of the issues at hand by general tabloid statements sometimes being offered in this forum.

It's called democracy so better to let them get rid of a bit of steam. Any luck the Anti side will be in numbers to show intolerance is not welcome on Scottish streets.

I hope so. I just don't like violence so hope there isn't any. I read it's in Bathgate, that's a bit of a random place to choose!

I'm so glad I live down at the bottom of the world far away from all the stuff I've been reading on this thread. Devonport isn't a big place - population of 25,000 - immigrant living here very happily - never hear racist comments .................... long may it last.

I raised how common it is a PhD these days. Sorry if you felt it was a slight on a personal achievement it was unintended just as I'm sure you were in no way attempting to suggest intellectual superiority by means of being in possible possession of such. Glad we are straight on that. In truth though personal achievements I personally would not be revealing personal information, unless somehow related to the subject on hand, on a Forum, as it is the content of argument surely to provoke or find accord rather than bragging about personal achievements to which few would care about anyway.

You're trying to be offensive but merely making yourself look petty, and that always happens when a person attacks the man and not the argument, which is what you have done here because you know you cannot win the argument. I never brag about having a doctorate, I never refer to myself as "Dr" not in correspondence or on any official documents or bank cards, and I only raise it if I feel it might be strictly relevant. In fact it was someone else who raised it on this thread, and he did so by way of a veiled insult. As for how common they are, my PhD is in a field achieved by roughly 1 in 100,000 people.

Don't worry about it. You'll live to fight another day, and you might even be right one day as well.

I have my eye on Tasmania for retirement purposes. I think it looks just amazing and I would love the cooler weather as well. Also, as you rightly point out, if there's going to be a last place in the world to become totally degraded then that place is probably going to be Tasmania.

Yes, we retired here this time last year. Always loved coming on holidays to Tasmania and looked forward to retirement here.

Another churlish reply. Far from attacking the individual I was making my considered opinion on the PhD market known. As such I have absolutely no interest of what you may or may not use in your correspondence. It doesn't cut the mustard with me either way. I do regard your posts with interest though and do note with a degree of alarm someone bringing to attention their academic qualifications on one hand and advocating such an alarmist, tabloid like response to all things Islam on the other, inclusive of such dire warnings with regards the future as barely articulating in a manner than may be expected of an academic response.

And be certain I don't worry and will live to fight many another day if the above response is the best you can muster. Hard to be wrong when right. Do feel free to challenge.

Edited by flag of convenience

I'll break this down because I have time here.

What is the value of my PhD on the market?

I have already explained to you, in the very post to which you reply, that I did not bring attention to my academic qualifications, and that someone else raised it, so you can lay your concerns to rest.

Why would I write in an academic style when talking to you?

If you can make good reply to the above, then let's return to the debate, where we were before you started making things personal. Let's talk about why the far right is marching, and what the rise of Islam in the EU means for society.

Just a quick interjection, has the paranoia card become the new race card?

For one with such qualifications the responses to date are tabloid at best or repetitions of the manifestos of Far Right parties within the European mould. Muslim take over and the fear induced by those with other motives is hardly the stuff of academic research. The far right marching indeed. More the question why the left still outnumber the outrageous right in a street march in Newcastle, or any other UK city you care to name.

Or why the left were returned In France a few years back, In Sweden, In Greece, getting stronger by the day in Spain. Surely it should be why is the Right doing so poorly and the Left is rising?

Nothing new about paranoia and race. Prior to Islam about to take over Britain, it was Socialists and blacks and Asians and earlier days likely Irish. Seems the need to despise even hate and fear another group is a necessary requirement within the majority tribe. It does of course take the eye of the eight ball on more pressing matters as well as helping to divide and rule.

Yep on the Defcon scale we have gone back a notch to Defcon 2. Defcon 5 means we will all be wearing flowers behind our ears and smoking a peace pipe together while bent over reciting passages from the Koran. Give it another twenty years and it will be told you so.

Tell me is their not a reason to doubt/despise the Muslim faith with the atrocities they have committed in the name of their faith. It's ok you can take your wig off your talking to me. Not scrutes

In avoiding all my questions you make me reluctant to debate with you because I fear I will spend time making points and providing evidence to back them simply to be ignored. You know how the internet is full of people who do that.

I have informed you that you are mistaken. The Right is no more on the march than it was in the past. Likely less so. As I said the Left is on the march if that is the term you want to use. You have provided no evidence outside of right wing manifestos. Nothing at all. Hence nothing outside of ideology to debate.

The onus is on understanding the issue at hand, that includes all sides of the debate. Both sides have the ability to do great damage from within their fringe lunatic elements.

Sadly an ill tutored minority can do a lot of harm. Hitler lays witness to that.

There is a difference between a mere assertion, which you have made here, and a factual statement. You assert that the far right is not rising in Europe, and I am stating that it is. Evidence for this would include the 24 NF seats in France, the rise of Golden Dawn, Jobbik in Hungary, and a bona fide neo-Nazi MEP in the form of Udo Voigt who openly praises Hitler and now sits in the European Parliament. All of these movements are far-right, partially racially motivated and on the rise, as is the BNP and EDL in the UK in popular support.
