laurenday
hi, sorry to jump on your thread but im currently looking to move to Australia with my family, im also a hairdresser, would you be able to give me an idea on what you did for the skills assessment. my main issue is the financial/payslips. I have been employed as a stylist by my employer for 6 years, but I can only find 3 of my p60s. any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated by any one who has been through this. tia
janlo
It's ridiculous if he's not accepting your answers if Australian techniques are different. You've been trained here! Crazy questions....who is this assessor guy?! Lol

I had a few recent payslips that I sent. It turned out to be a really long process I sent my first documents in January and just received my certificate last week. How many years post qualification do you have?

laurenday
Hi, brilliant I'll give that a go! The only thing is I've only been working part time (16 hours) due to having 2 young children. Do you know if the experience has to be full time? I did my apprenticeship 2006-2008 then worked Full time as a stylist then moved to the salon where I am at now and working 16 hours a week since, I've been there for 6 years thanks

Working a 24hr week. I was working 3 days per week so just met the requirements. The only proof of that was my pay slips and I only submitted about 5 or 6. My boss filled out the forms and wrote that I was full time.
laurenday
Oh so that's going to be a problem, I've sent off for a statement of national insurance contributions as that vouches for employment but over years the majority is only going to be part time work, how many years experience do you have? Maybe contact a migration specialist and see if they think you can pursue the visa. I did an apprentice from 2005-2007 and then moved to oz came back and went to college in 2011 and have worked since then but post qualification experience is only 3 years. It is only enough to apply for NT. But I have been offered a regional job in WA so I am hoping to get the 187 visa started asap. Do you have a partner that is going and are they on the skills list. Have u been to oz before
laurenday
Yeah that's our next step at the minute I've got together a start on my paperwork for skills assessment but going to speak to a migration officer with all my questions, there's a few! Yes I have a husband but no skills he's a HGV driver and can easily find work in any area of oz so that's no issue to us personally but obviously he can't help towards the visa application yeah I went travelling for 3 months straight after finishing my apprenticeship then been over twice, 4 weeks at a time as my husbands grandma and grandad live in Victoria. Good luck with the

laurenday
Yeah just a shame they will be in Vic and we won't lol. i will be getting in touch with some after the weekend and hopefully go from there, there is so many websites that say so many different things I think I could go on forever searching for myself it's took us a while to get this far. yeah I've read through the full post I think I'm going to have to brush up on my knowledge! I've just completed a barbering course though so I've already refreshed some theory, but thanks I'm sure I will be asking about vetassess soon (hopefully anyway)

Vickiw89
Sorry just seen these! Fingers crossed for you I hope you get to apply! Laura can I be nosy and ask how you can apply for a 187 in wa, I've had a job offer but cuz it wasn't a state sponsoring hairdressers I haven't taken it up? Sure is a public thread feel free to join in
laurenday
Hi, just a quick update. Vetassess will accept my part time work converted eg my 6 years 16 hours can qualify for 2/3 years so taking that into account I have 5-6 years (yey) only down side is QLD will only accept 5 years full time work so we would only be eligible for NT. we are now looking at 457 visa sponsorship, that way we will be able to join grandparents in VIC. I just can't figure out whether I need the skills assessment for it! As far as I can see I don't, I've started my paperwork just in case but I'm currently waiting on a new passport! Vickiw89
Hi lauren, that's great news! My only concern would be taking children over on a 457, your completely reliant on the employer and if they let you go you only have 90 days to find another employer willing to sponsor you or you'll have to return home. If you could id recommend going for the permanent residency visa as it offers more stability for your family. im not sure about the skills assessment, have you spoken to a rma? laurenday
Sorry it's the direct entry stream we are going for, it's s permanent residency stream, I've found out I do need the skills assessment so will be going ahead with that as soon as possible. I've been looking for a RMA but haven't found one yet only the company visabureu and id prefer to find an agent rather than a company so will be looking this week, do you have any recommendations? laurahair
Hi lauren that's great you can apply for that visa. I'm not using an agent so I can't recommend one. I'm sure you are excited to get started.

sony
Hi thank you so much for the details quite helpful. I've also cleared my 1st stage of assessment with 4 videos - perming, colouring, men's outline shave- tough one and men's classic haircut. I passed the 1 st stage and now waiting for my technical interview. If you can still brief me more about the same n some more questions if you remember thank you so much
Vickiw89
Hi sony i can't remember anything else they asked me sorry I think most of the questions I was asked I've already put down. My advice is just revise everything from your nvqs and familiarise yourself with the Aussie units too. Which visa are you applying for? sony
Hello vicki, thank you once again. I've got nvq 2 n nvq 3 of city n guilds, which I'm referring but no idea about Aussie units- I mean don't have reading material for the same. I've applied for 190 category and eligible for NT only. ive applied on 9th of October for technical interview but haven't got the date yet. Why do they take such long hour technical interview? Any idea, cozy as I read it took more 2 hours for you so what kind if situation is there at interview centre. my agent told me it's going to be one to one session , a video interview. If you can brief me more. Edited October 21, 2015 by sony
