Bound4Tassie
Has anyone brought more than 2 dogs over? Or got more than 2 dogs? I'm not sure if the rules are the same elsewhere but in Tas you can only keep 2 dogs unless you get a kennel licence. As we will have to rent initially, I am doubtful we'll get anywhere that would agree to us having a kennel licence! This would obviously mean leaving one dog behind in the UK.... not a fun decision. Skani
Unless you can put one in kennels until you buy? May be worth contacting kennels like these and get a quote for long stay care? http://www.shelomith.com/ http://peaceofmindboardingkennels.com.au/ This lady also provides home stay dog boarding: http://www.pettaxi.net.au/dog-minding/ I'd hate to have to make the decision to leave one of my pets behind.
srh82
Personally I couldn't do it. I would stay where you are...

I don't reckon we'llbe able to buy for a year or 2 so not really fair/feasible to keep a dog in kennels that long I would only rehome to family or friends but I really don't know how I'm going to decide on this. The guilt will stay with me.

Bound4Tassie
Can you register a dog at someone else's address? Eg inlaws or friends? I know you're not supposed to but is it policed?
Roberta2
Local authorities lack resources to police such things. In Brisbane, they tried recently to make people register their cats. Hah! No one complied and they had to drop it. It's only when there is a problem that rules re dogs are enforced. e.g. recently my two dogs and I were menaced by two stray dogs. The Council took it very seriously, since there have been many dog attacks on children. I knew where the dogs lived. The Council inspector found that the registration of one of the dogs had run out, so the owners were fined $350. So if you were to register the extra dog at someone else's address, it should be OK provided that you maintain the registration, and that your landlord agrees in writing to your having two dogs. Of course, you would want to ensure as much as possible that your dogs don't cause problems with neighbours - barking in particular - because that might invite complaint and questions might be asked. Skani
There was a PIOer who moved to southern Tas. several years ago who mentioned bringing 3 dogs...but I can't remember whether she gave details of how she managed it. Her name was Jo Green and you may be able to find her posts through the Search function.
em&paul
Hi If you look at a property that is more rural than you might have more of a chance. Landlords who rent out their houses in rural locations often expect renters to have animals - dogs, cats and even sheep. Where in Tassie are you looking at moving too? Might be worth contacting some estate agents in that area and asking them if they have any properties on their books that would allow 3 dogs.
