Please help - Parents Visa Options

Recommended Posts

I am holding an Australian PR and living here with my partner since Feb 2013. I would like to bring my parents here (aged 60 and 67). Could someone please let me know my options? What will be cost and processing time for the visa's?

Many Thanks,

Shaahul.

After you've lived here 2 years, you can sponsor them for the contributory parent visa. They need to pass the balance of family test (at least 50% of their children in Australia as PR/citizen), and the cost is approximately $50,000 per parent. It takes about 2 years once the application is lodged.

It is expensive because older people have not contributed taxes to Australia during their lifetime. The other option is just tourist visas, which can allow stays of up to 12 months t a time.

If they want to migrate here, then that's the only option. Otherwise they can come as tourists, but can't stay.
