Guest hydeteru
Hi all Thought of going for a holiday sometime in June/July. Put in application for 175 in January. Read previous postings before that any subsequent visa applied and approved will cancel the previous application. Need expert advice whether applying for and going to OZ for holiday with ETA will affect 175 visa grant? And do we need to notify ASPC? (no CO assigned yet, who should we notify) Thanks and hope someone will reply ... really wanna go for a short holiday break. Hydeteru
Guest Gollywobbler
Hello Hydeteru You can go to Oz on an ETA with no probs but it is essential to let the ASPC know that you are in Oz and how they can contact you in Oz. The reason is because the 175 is an "offshore" visa, which means that you must be outside Australia when it is granted. This is not a problem as long as your CO knows where you are and can contact you easily if s/he is redy to grant your visa at a time when you happen to be in Oz. In this situation the CO can issue a "pre-grant letter" informing you that they will be able to grant your 175 visa once you have left Oz. You can do that by nipping tp Bali/NZ or wherever for a few days (but the whole family would have to go on the trip) and then return to Oz validating your visas on the way back in. Alternatively since you are only planning a short visit your CO might be happy to delay the grant of your visa until you are outside Oz on your way back to the UK. I would recommend that you e-mail the ASPC prior to booking your flights. Tell them your proposed travel dates and ask whether they are likely to clash with the ASPC being ready to grant your visas. Guest monkeypixie
I assume this advice is only really relevant if you have a CO. My husband and I are still waiting for a CO but are going on holiday to Oz using an ETA for a couple of weeks over April/May. We have yet to do medicals and police checks anyway, but just hope that we don't get asked for these when we are away.

Hiya No - you are supposed to notify DIAC, in writing to the ASPC, of your arrival in Oz. I'm sure that lots of people who are only making very short trips don't bother to do this though. If somebody is making a longer visit to Oz, the meds can be done in Oz with no problem (and I've heard that it is cheaper to do them in Oz.) Guest charliebrown
Gill - I'm going to Perth on Friday for 10 days on an ETA - I dont have a case officer yet and dont suppose they are going to be granting paper based october applications next week..but I hadnt thought of this - my agent knows I'm going, but do you think I should be more formal with telling ASPC? Guest Gollywobbler
Hi Charlie I very much doubt that it will matter but if you want to you could e=mail the ASPC with your travel dates. That way you've done what they ask even if they take no notice! Best wishes Gill
