Employment advice for a Graphic Designer please

Hi all,

With so much valuable advice offered on POI - I'm hoping that somewhere, someone will be able to help with my dilema.....

After months of persuading OH that Oz would be a great place to settle, we're finally about to start the ball rolling with the first phase of the visa application - having discussed our options with migration agents it seems that 'Skilled Regional Sponsored' is the way to go.

OH is a very talented graphic designer - at the moment regions sponsoring graphic designers are South Australia and Tasmania (although we'd initally hoped to go to Melbourne) anyway, I've scouted loads of recruitment websites for graphic designer jobs but not getting very far .

OH happy to go to Australia provided he can find work otherwise no way - can anyone help me please and offer any advice on creative agencies or specialist recruitment agencies in or just outside Adelaide - I fear that without the possibility of finding work, this Australian dream will not be realised.

HELP!!!!

Graphic design jobs are not always advertised, as most people find work through networking in the industry. Your best bet is to do a search on Graphic Design companys, media centres, newspapers, advertising agencies etc and approach them directly with a personal profile, resume and samples of work. Some recruitment agencies will do this for you, although most like to have met with the 'applicant' before sending out information, and they can't help with any of the visa, relocation etc. Are you planning on coming to Australia to suss it out in person? Culteral and personality fit is very important here and a lot of companies are valuing the team fit above skills, as these can be trained. My work email is eperigo@jetrecruitment.com.au if you want to send some information through to me and I can see if any of our partners in Adelaide can help.

Just waiting to hear if we have got state sponsorship on the basis that Graphic Designers are listed as skills required. Interesting to note everything mentioned above. I current manage a printing company that offers a design service as well as digital and litho print solutions. Because it is a franchise I have a hands on approach to everything, therefore my time is split between designing for clients, managing the workflow through the design studio, operating the digital press, print finishing, customer service and the marketing of the franchise....very busy indeed...will be looking to work mainly on the graphics side when/if I get to Adelaide and it would be great to be with a print company as I do enjoy the whole process.

Any further advice or help as to who to approach would be great. I do plan to contact all the companies I have come across with a view to go and meet with them.
