Does a positive skills assessment help you get a job?

Just wondering if the skills assessment has any positive benefit when applying for jobs? or is it just a necessary but useless part of the visa application process?

Necessary part of the visa process. Most employers, won't know a thing about skills assessment, they probably have never even heard the term before.

For many visa's it is necessary and I wouldn't be doing one if it wasn't. It has no direct bearing on getting a job, and just because you have passed a skills assessment does not mean you will even be able to work in your profession in Australia as there may be registrations and certificates required (this especially applies to construction trades)

 

I did find the references useful though - having testimonies from previous employers providing glowing reports available (& certified) meant potential employers did not need to contact them in the UK. I used the same references as 'character references' when applying for a rental.

 

I have no idea whether it made any difference though! I got the first job and rental I applied for and didn't ask why
