Already have our 189 visa Somewhere far away from the coast and far away from where teachers actually want to live. NSW pretty much requires you to do rural/remote before they even think of offering you anything approaching permanent positions. I'm out of the classroom now running the Education arm of a STEM Charity, I was ICT Secondary in the UK, followed by severe special needs and then primary before the move, since being here I just did Primary, relief and short term contracts by choice, and turned down quite a lot of work, was able to turn down the schools I didn't love going to. I have quite a few teacher friends here (mainly primary). Know lots and lots of Science teachers especially (due to the nature of my role). Science & Maths teachers are always needed - I have science teacher friends in Qld that didn't struggle in anyway to secure positions, Brisbane and the surrounds. It's like anywhere - if you want to work and are realistic etc you'll be fine. Adelaide certainly has lots of relief work, it generally pans out that you get 'in' with a couple of schools local to you and you fill up your days with them. If you *need* full time relief work (the wages are good, so you can have a very nice life on not full time, I certainly did including lots and lots of interstate and international travel. but then I didn't have a family at all) you can sign up with the main agency here, Switch, or with DECD, but I only got about 3 days in a couple of years through DECD, so private/catholic its a lot easier to get work. I am told, as said above, maths and science are the two HS subjects in need. Primary wise, I know a fair few teachers and a number of them have had a hard time to secure anything regular and the primary teaching job market seems pretty saturated (at least in the more desirable areas people might want to work in). Plus so many locals now coming through the system seeking to get a foot in the door. Some I know have had to go rural/remote to secure a regular or year long contract. By remote I mean a 12 hour drive from Adelaide in a proper rural town or down Mt Gambier way. I'm hoping to start teaching at the end of January so really want all my documentation in place. I know I can't get WWCC or NESA reg until I'm on the ground, which is fine. I have all my documents ready to have certified when we arrive etc. My first concern is proof of address. When we first arrive we'll be in airbnb, I'm not sure if I can register whilst not in actual in rented accommodation? Second is ID. For the WWCC I need to prove identity at NSW Services or RMS. There are two lists of ID, and you need an item from both. List 1 is fine but list 2 appears to be quite NSW specific (NSW driving license or medicare card etc) which I won't have at first. It does however also day a bank card, does anyone know if this can be a UK card? It seems to mainly be for proof of signature. Thanks in advance for any help or advice! jbar399 Posted September 6, 2018 Share Posted September 6, 2018 I teach in Qld and a friend of mine has just registered in NSW.... it’s a long process! She had to send all her paperwork in, and then wait for a call for an interview. They require you to have an interview before you can teach or relieve in NSW. So trying to get your paperwork up and ready to go when you arrive is definitely a good idea. Then you will just have to wait for your interview. TFN... another waiting process unfortunately. I was debating coming over for a few weeks in October to start the process, as I'm on SE Asia so not too far, but if I am awaiting a call about an interview with NESA, it might come while I'm back here! I qualified with a general primary (5-11) PGCE and wondered if I could potentially find work as a reception teacher (ie Early Years Teacher) in the 4&5 year old age range? Cant seem to find much info on the specific comparisons with my qualification and that of an Aussie one. I’m actually an Australian citizen but have lived in the U.K. for most of my adult life and am going back to Aus soon - Adelaide! Otherwise, do any of you get good TRT work in Adelaide? I am being put up by a friend when I first arrive but I am keen to organise a job asap as I don't want to out stay my welcome. I am in touch with a couple of supply companies but I am really worried about how much a working holiday visa is stopping me getting short term roles. On a WHV take any job you can get - barista, waiting tables, serving drinks, cleaning etc. Primary jobs in the major cities are scarce and a WHV isn't really intended as a career path and you're unlikely to be able to support yourself on CRT especially at the start of the year. There are plenty of young Australian teachers out of work who are all clamouring for those positions. On a working holiday visa, you can work for up to six months with one employer - so there is no reason it should stop you getting a short term role. The snag is that it's six months per employer, not six months per school. That's all the owner of the Montessori has (his prior qualifications were in another subject too). Without a prior qualification in the subject you won't be able to get that via RPL (recognition of prior learning) but the course can be done in Australia in a few months and would be very easy for someone with a degree. Thank u Ken once again So I am in big dellima because my wife run preschool & She has All relevant Experience .she has a a bechalor degree but doesn't have any certificate 3 or that kind of course Is there any way due to good Experience they ignore certificate 3 course ? Can anyone point me in the direction of websites to get my head around the secondary science curriculum and exam system in WA? Also, when doing the skills assessment, what sector do UK secondary teachers go for - middle school or secondary? Im currently curriculum leader for science in an 11-16 school, 11 years teaching experience but never taught A-level. My timetable is predominantly KS4 so I’m inclined to secondary but would it be an issue that I’ve not taught 16-18 in the UK? Lastly, do science teachers in WA/Australia tend to teach across the 3 sciences or stick to their specialism? I’m a biologist but I love teaching physics and chemistry, would be sad to give them up. In terms of AITSL apply as secondary school. How did you complete your teaching qualification? The 16-18 part should be ok. I never taught that age group but was qualified to do so. Schools vary, but in my experience sciences in junior school rotate per term so you would certainly get to do some teaching in other strands.
