Ha ha!! Definitely not...especially in Australian teaching it would seem!! They like to make it complicated... How's things with you? How's the application going?? :)

Things are ok this end. Got the medicals a week on Tuesday. QCT papers are in. Police checks for wife and son are due back around the same time as the medicals and then I guess we are good to go. Wondering when to make the move, I have started to look at jobs and see if I can get any interest I guess :)

Think your probably right. Huge gamble though. Finding a job would be so pressured. See what the next 2 months brings financially and then make the call.

Ben you just heading over?

Its not impossible to line something up in advance. There was someone on here who did it when I was first looking for info.

That's good to hear mate. I am lowering expectations and applying for a broad range. Just need to get something before deadline for handing in notice. Close to my school and want to give the best notice possible. At the sane time it is time to look after myself a little....

You not going to quit then and try your luck? People advised us to see if we could get a year off with the job held open in the UK. She asked but head said because she was a science teacher they would have problems getting another job science teacher on just a year contract so they refused her. Head did say though it would have been different if she taught in a different subject. Her school had a fairly high turn over so the head said that if it didnt work out in Aus then contract her on return and she may be able to sort something out

I am on the leadership team so it is unlikely. Difficult for someone to pick up my areas for 12 months. It is all about the job hunt!!!

Well, I'm not heading over until January 2015 permanently so just going to start registering with NSW soon - no jobs available for Jan at the mo (understandably)! I've already handed in my notice at my current school for August 31st...going to do some other bits and bobs in those 5 months - a bit of travelling, some other work! Thought that last term would've been very disjointed - a mishmash of lessons, doing cover. I thought it was better for me and the kids to leave at the end of a school year! Very excited by it all. Heading out to Oz in September to visit and activate my visa. If I don't have a job by then I'll be looking at Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to see which I prefer, and then focus on the preferred! Good luck in the medicals tomorrow Vandeux!!

Exciting times!! :)

Sounds like you have a full on plan mate. I hope it all pans out exactly as wanted. Medicals are a week tomorrow. Same day as wife and son should have PCC back. Then upload and see what happens!

Hi Kasia,

Have you read through the thread?

SMART teachers seem to have a good presence in QLD.

TES is good for NSW

Each state has its own local govt page with a number of jobs on.

These are good places to start :)

Have you completed your AITSL skills assessment and registered with QCT?

Sorry for the questions, just trying to help out :)

Was going to ask the same thing! What visa are you going on? And have you had your teaching qualification assessed by AITSL?? You'll need that as a minimum before you can do anything else :)

Cheers Wolvesaussie!! Didn't know that - thought you had to be assessed by AITSL anyway! There you go...if you're on a partner visa, (and it seems you may be as you said how it's nearly done) you may be ok! A bit more info and we can help hopefully!! :)

Yeah there job is just to say u can use teaching to apply for a visa basically. If u have another way of getting the visa u dont need them. If u came on working holiday visa is another example. U have the visa already so u just need to register with the state teaching body.

Explains why all the registration takes so long :P - one day someone will decide to streamline professional organisations . . .. . :D

Oh wow, Thanks guys! you lot are amazing, thanks so much for helping, can't believe how quick you all are at replying

So, we are applying for our VISA through my fiance who is an air con / refrigeration engineer (he needs some help to get sorted too but that is another thread!) He has his skills test at the end of March and then we just have our medicals - which if you saw my other post - I'm nervous about as I've just had a sporting accident and damaged the ligaments in my knee. I really hope its all sorted as I don't want to go into a medical exam on crutches….doh! I am currently a primary school teacher, Early Years is my passion although I am also a PE teacher specialising in gymnastics. Our migrant agent has not been very helpful with advice for me, gave me an email address to write to but I never heard anything back. I have since started a search on the web and came across you guys.

Well the good news is you don't have to go through AITSL, but you will have to register with the state you intend to live in. For example I am aiming for QLD and there for needed to register with Queensland College of Teachers. The process is fairly paper heavy. I needed the following docs:

IELTS certificate - not 100% I needed it but I sent it.

Degree Cert

Degree Transcript

PGCE Cert

PGCE Transcript

Passport

References from schools I have worked in over the last 5 years

Statement of service letters - basically guaranteeing I was employed.

Costs about 200AUD to register. I had to apply electronically and then send everything off in paper format as well.

I had mine certified by a barrister and sent it all off. Says it takes 2 weeks to process.

That's starting info :)

Hi Kasia,

With regard to the knee damage, I broke my femur, ripped my cartilage and snapped my ACL and medial ligaments back in 2010 - had two ops, in hospital for 12 days then 2 days!! I am now back playing rugby and they didn't care about the damage at my medical. I think they're more after things that will cost them long term like diabetes, CHD etc. I realise it's a bit weird going to a medical with crutches, but as it's temporary they should be ok. Anyone else been to a medical with a fresh injury that can comment further?? Maybe ask in the General Migration forum as well as more people will read that :)

Hope this puts your mind at rest a little!!!

You also need have to have had four years of tertiary (university) education to teach anywhere in Australia. A three year Bachelor of Education is not accepted by any of the teaching registration boards.

Hi Millie

I`m Slt at the moment and head of science looking to move july 2015, is it relatively easy to register to teach? Both QLD and NSW seem quite complicated,

Cheers

Rachel
