MACDONALDO67 Posted March 18, 2008 Share Posted March 18, 2008 Can do no more. :nah: Virtually all Résumé’s / CV's for railway sponsorship replied to and all either say that they don't do sponsorship or apply via the skilled list, which are all bridge, electrical, signalling ENGINEERS. Of course I am not from that field so no experience, would be prepared to learn, but all ask for previous experience. Adios ! Today, ARG Freight Perth reply advising "At this point, Australian Railroad Group are not in a position to arrange for Sponsorship Visa's for overseas applicants. Therefore, in order to be considered for any future vacancies within our organisation, you would need to arrange for a valid working visa for Australia, details of which may be obtained from our Department of Immigration website at http://www.immi.gov.au/." I thought a working visa was the "Skilled" visa that I do not qualify for or an age limit attached to it, which of course I am over. They even reiterate their website address for me to keep an eye on jobs being advertised ? Now I'm either confused or mentally handicapped. So what other options ? Well I have registered with a couple of agents who have notified me that they will be in touch. To even think about training a skill now, plumbing, electrical etc, etc blah de blah would take years, which I don't have. HGV pointless because I would have to go on a refresher and even then that would mean nothing because you get tested again in Australia. Anyway, that isn't a skill either. Money. Retirement visa. Haven't got enough and anyway, does anyone know the 6 numbers for Saturday. What really ticks me off is that for 23 years I have slogged it in my line of work, working all hours, prepared to work 100% guaranteed and I just cannot get anywhere. Then I look at what is going on here in Britain with every Tom, Dick and Harry coming in for the entitled pensions, health service and benefits and we cannot get out to work in a land I know I would give 100% and then some. Absolutely P****d off! It's not as if we are trying to emigrate to claim. Frustrating or what ? So if anyone on this forum has any ideas I would be grateful of any help. It might be subbed out to companies you have already approached, but what about tracks inside the mine area? I'd maybe see what the mining companies say? BHP Billiton is one. They run the big iron ore mine in WA. I don't know the names of any others, but try via Google Australia, I'd suggest. Also, why not write back to the recruitment teams explaining why you need to go bia the employer-sponsored route? Remember that you know MUCH more about visas than they do. Have you thought of drawing up a list of target companies and then getting a Migration Agent to ring them up on your behalf? We were told we didn't pass the points mark for skilled then agreed to go to Adelaide on Low population growth visa (there are other areas on this visa). But then hubby got offered a job sponsor so went on 457, now he doesn't like the job and have started looking at other options again, seems we can get State sponsorship. Have you thought of that? it's perm visa and your not tied into a company if you don't like it. We were talking to an job agency who advised to got for the state sponsor as most employers are put off by sponsoring people as they think it's gonna cost them a few grand! it only costs the company a couple of hundred. I like the look of Perth but as a means of gaining entry, if Adelaide is offered, I will snatch their hand off. As long as residence is within reach of the big ones - Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, we will be happy. We will see how it goes but thank you all for info. I noticed that you have been contacting agencies before starting the whole messy visa process!! Are they interested in talking to people who have not yet achieved their goal? Who did you speak with? You have been so proactive in all of this............keep going mate, you're doing a fine job! On a personal note..............my OH is NOT happy with the job package he has been offered (We are now trying to change the Sponsor)so we too have contacted most of the companies that you have.............least you've had a reply...................I'm still waiting!!!!! AND yes we are grateful that we have a way in but we know it's not going to be sustainable long term so we're just trying to keep our options open.......KEEP plugging away and where one door closes......another one opens (so they say) All the best! However, I feel it is going to be a long, drawn out process which I think will get messy somewhere along the line. For example, for a Sponsored visa I need to be ready to move within 6 to 12 weeks. It states this on Globalsearch. So that means packing my job in, selling the house and moving all belongings and family abroad. Really messy ! For starters there is no way the house would sell in 6 to 12 weeks. I could be wrong but under today's climate difficult? Then there is the possibility of leaving the family behind to go over there and pay the mortgage here whilst finding rent, food for both locations. Funds running down in the process. Think I will kack myself if an offer did come through because that's it. What I am waiting for and that means the organisation has to be right, has to be clockwork. So Westnet and Globalsearch sent an email today with CV and reply to "findajobinoz" who will circulate my details and CV to other Australian sites. Slowly but surely, onwards and upwards. Just hope it works out if we get the opportunity. Hell I'll put up with anything to achieve what it is that I want and that is where I want to be. My oh is in his early 40's and is an engineer. However, he is a bit specialised so jobs in his area are limited. I have a job on the MODL list but i am over the age limit at 51 so can't apply for a visa in my name. We have enlisted the help of an agent to try and help us find a way in. we have a daughter living in Sydney but she is only a temporary resident so can't sponsor us. I will be watching your threads to see if you come up with anything that may be helpful to us. All the best and keep going. You will get there in the end as you seem very determined. They sound like they need education about the risk and reward of sponsoring a person into work.
