Well that's that then. Dead End !

Can do no more. :nah:

Virtually all Résumé’s / CV's for railway sponsorship replied to and all either say that they don't do sponsorship or apply via the skilled list, which are all bridge, electrical, signalling ENGINEERS.

Of course I am not from that field so no experience, would be prepared to learn, but all ask for previous experience. Adios !

Today, ARG Freight Perth reply advising "At this point, Australian Railroad Group are not in a position to arrange for Sponsorship Visa's for overseas applicants. Therefore, in order to be considered for any future vacancies within our organisation, you would need to arrange for a valid working visa for Australia, details of which may be obtained from our Department of Immigration website at http://www.immi.gov.au/."

I thought a working visa was the "Skilled" visa that I do not qualify for or an age limit attached to it, which of course I am over. They even reiterate their website address for me to keep an eye on jobs being advertised ? Now I'm either confused or mentally handicapped.

So what other options ? Well I have registered with a couple of agents who have notified me that they will be in touch.

To even think about training a skill now, plumbing, electrical etc, etc blah de blah would take years, which I don't have.

HGV pointless because I would have to go on a refresher and even then that would mean nothing because you get tested again in Australia. Anyway, that isn't a skill either.

Money. Retirement visa. Haven't got enough and anyway, does anyone know the 6 numbers for Saturday.

What really ticks me off is that for 23 years I have slogged it in my line of work, working all hours, prepared to work 100% guaranteed and I just cannot get anywhere.

Then I look at what is going on here in Britain with every Tom, Dick and Harry coming in for the entitled pensions, health service and benefits and we cannot get out to work in a land I know I would give 100% and then some. Absolutely P****d off! It's not as if we are trying to emigrate to claim. Frustrating or what ?

So if anyone on this forum has any ideas I would be grateful of any help.

Looks like another agent call on the way tomorrow, today. :arghh:

Hi Allan

Who looks after the tracks for the trains from the mines to the ports on the coast? It might be subbed out to companies you have already approached, but what about tracks inside the mine area?

I'd maybe see what the mining companies say?

BHP Billiton is one. They run the big iron ore mine in WA. I don't know the names of any others, but try via Google Australia, I'd suggest.

Also, why not write back to the recruitment teams explaining why you need to go bia the employer-sponsored route? Remember that you know MUCH more about visas than they do.

Have you thought of drawing up a list of target companies and then getting a Migration Agent to ring them up on your behalf?

Best wishes

Gill

Hi,

There's so many visa's out there you will have an option. We were told we didn't pass the points mark for skilled then agreed to go to Adelaide on Low population growth visa (there are other areas on this visa). But then hubby got offered a job sponsor so went on 457, now he doesn't like the job and have started looking at other options again, seems we can get State sponsorship. Have you thought of that? it's perm visa and your not tied into a company if you don't like it. We were talking to an job agency who advised to got for the state sponsor as most employers are put off by sponsoring people as they think it's gonna cost them a few grand! it only costs the company a couple of hundred. Look into the loow pop visa and the state sonsorship.

All the best, don't give up.

Sue

Please, please, please don't give up on your dream! You will get there, if you want to. We had numerous stop-starts... and then found a way in, and it's all systems go! We leave on 13th June, for a massive adventure, and new way of life.

It can still happen. Good luck with the new email, and keep us PiO'ers posted!

Funnily enough Brisbane was top of our agenda but the wife wants Melbourne. I like the look of Perth but as a means of gaining entry, if Adelaide is offered, I will snatch their hand off.

As long as residence is within reach of the big ones - Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, we will be happy.

We will see how it goes but thank you all for info.

Hi Allan,

Just read your news - congratulations and well done for not giving up!!!

I noticed that you have been contacting agencies before starting the whole messy visa process!! Are they interested in talking to people who have not yet achieved their goal? Who did you speak with?

Sonia & Roy

(Roy is a plumber and we are being stated sponsored by Queensland and going in on a PR visa.

DON'T give up.....................I have followed your posts as you know because you and my OH are in the same "business" so to speak! You have been so proactive in all of this............keep going mate, you're doing a fine job!

On a personal note..............my OH is NOT happy with the job package he has been offered (We are now trying to change the Sponsor)so we too have contacted most of the companies that you have.............least you've had a reply...................I'm still waiting!!!!! AND yes we are grateful that we have a way in but we know it's not going to be sustainable long term so we're just trying to keep our options open.......KEEP plugging away and where one door closes......another one opens (so they say)

All the best!

Not even a herd of wild elephants coming over a hill at me would make me give up and run. However, I feel it is going to be a long, drawn out process which I think will get messy somewhere along the line.

For example, for a Sponsored visa I need to be ready to move within 6 to 12 weeks. It states this on Globalsearch. So that means packing my job in, selling the house and moving all belongings and family abroad. Really messy !

For starters there is no way the house would sell in 6 to 12 weeks. I could be wrong but under today's climate difficult? Then there is the possibility of leaving the family behind to go over there and pay the mortgage here whilst finding rent, food for both locations. Funds running down in the process.

Think I will kack myself if an offer did come through because that's it. What I am waiting for and that means the organisation has to be right, has to be clockwork.

So Westnet and Globalsearch sent an email today with CV and reply to "findajobinoz" who will circulate my details and CV to other Australian sites.

Slowly but surely, onwards and upwards. Just hope it works out if we get the opportunity. Hell I'll put up with anything to achieve what it is that I want and that is where I want to be.

Goodluck with everyone else's quests and thanks for info.

Hi Allen, we are just down the road from you in Bolton. We are having similar problems to you. My oh is in his early 40's and is an engineer. However, he is a bit specialised so jobs in his area are limited. I have a job on the MODL list but i am over the age limit at 51 so can't apply for a visa in my name. We have enlisted the help of an agent to try and help us find a way in. we have a daughter living in Sydney but she is only a temporary resident so can't sponsor us. I will be watching your threads to see if you come up with anything that may be helpful to us. All the best and keep going. You will get there in the end as you seem very determined. I intend to find a way in, i think state sponsorship might be our only option.

Regards

Rose

Hi Allan and others

Affordability is a definite consideration when looking at the cost of migrating. Here is a link to a worksheet that helps calculate the cost of Do-It-Yourself job search. http://www.hireamigrant.com/Cost_benefit_migrant.xls

Good luck with circulating your CVs to agencies, but I do recommend you cast your net wider as recruitment agents only handle about 1/4 of all vacancies (although they are a little easier to find!)

Rose/Jamie thanks for info. That spreadsheet is something. Just running a copy off now thanks.

Looking at Mining agencies for driving as well as railways but I think this is going to be a long drawn out process and that's if it doesn't kill me first.

Will reply to this thread if and when I get some developments so it's the waiting game at the moment. :dull:

good luck Allan, sure it will work out for you...know how you feel tho...we're at a standstill too.

hubby a bus driver and we sent his CV off...got several replies saying they are desperate for them as cant get anyone with those skills but they unable to sponsor...it driving us mad...surely if they need people they can sponsor?

anyway..as student visa too costly..looks like we're here for another few yrs whilst i start a 3yr course here! but still gonna keep mailing companies in the meantime and hope that someone wants us!

That's what drives you nuts, not that they are unable to sponsor but choose not to - fear of the unknown? ignorance about the process? They sound like they need education about the risk and reward of sponsoring a person into work.

I think you're only limited in business by the rules you make for yourself, in this case their "rules" are "I don't like to change how we hire people" and "I don't need to keep learning"

If it wasn't for my shiftwork I wouldn't have minded my wife taking up a 3 year nurses course but she's not into that sort of thing. Always fancied my wife in a nurses outfit. :biglaugh:

Hey there just a thought

We have to go down the student visa route to get in as OH has just started training in the plumbing market and the training and work exp will take to long over here but we have found out that he can retrain over there in 18mths and we can apply for PR after this hoefully with a job offer entact..I know this is a really risky option but he can train to whats required on the sol pr list and would have the 2 years work exp and 2 years education on Oz . He is also allowed to take me and our 2 children.

This give us 18mths to try it and if we dont get pr straight away he will be qualified and we will apply again from here..

Just a though and loads of familys have gone through this route we want to end up in Vic but we will go anywhere to get the training and move afterwards the way I look at it is 18 mths out of my life poss and hopefully to start a new and better one :-)

Keep trying we thought we would never get a visa
