How long would people reccomend booking a first (well researched, popular, GOOD) hostel for?

Coming out in December (high season, hard to extend booking?) and unsure how long to book for...

On the one hand, moving hostels is such a hassle, but if you hate your hostel and youre stuck there, it can be miserable

So....

- 1 week and hope you get a house share sorted?

- 2 weeks and just enjoy just aclimatising and sorting out a job first?

I'd go for 2 and give yourself some breathing room either way. Job may not happen in Dec, extending by a week might be tough, so go for a couple of weeks to cover things.

Which city are you coming to? Which hostel are you hoping to move into? If it is high season, particularly over Xmas and New Year, maybe take those two weeks, if you can get them. In Sydney Xmas and New Year is very popular, what with the fireworks on NYE and Christmas on Bondi Beach.. Once New Year is out of the way, it might be a bit easier to book places.

Perth, arriving 30th Nov. Looking at either Banjo's or Wickham's Retreat... both review amazingly and have everything I'm looking for, winner.

Any views / experiences on the above two hostels, Perth folks? Wickhams Reatreat is expensive, but wifi, laundry, food is FREE.... wow.

I'd say 2 weeks, then after a week if you like it and fancy staying then just talk to the front desk and they can extend it a bit longer. Sometimes you might be forced to switch rooms, but some hostels end up having long term rooms which you'll get put in with the same people for a number of months, much better that way as you end up becoming friends with them and feel a bit more easy leaving stuff around etc....
