Hi folks,

I'm still in the early stages of my application. IELTS done and waiting for skills assessment but I'm certain of a positive outcome.

Very recently, I found that I will need to get a police certificate for the last 10 years so I am planning to get it in the meantime to avoid delays. Following is the requirement stated on www.immi.gov.au

When is a police certificate required?

If you are over the age of 16 and have lived in any of the countries listed in this document for a total of

one year or more in the last 10 years, you must get a police certificate from that country.

The certificate must cover the period of time from the issue date back to the age you ceased to be a

minor or must cover the whole time you were in a country.

For immigration purposes a police certificate is deemed to be valid for 12 months from the issue date.

To give a brief history about myself, I was born in Feb 1990 and grew up in Muscat, Oman and was there until April 2005 (15y), when I moved to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, East Africa. After spending about two years there, I moved to India in April 2007 (17y) and since then I've been residing permanently in India.

After reading the above requirements, I'm almost certain I wouldn't need to obtain a police clearance from Oman but I'm confused about Tanzania.

The text states, "The certificate must cover the period of time from the issue date back to the age you ceased to be a minor"

So, what is the age of minority for the purpose of this certificate, completion of 16 years or 18 years? If it is 16 years, I may have to obtain certificate from both Tanzania and India but if it is 18 years, I will have to obtain it only from India.

Does anybody have an idea? Please help me out. Am I missing something here?

You only need them for each country you have lived in for at least a year in the last ten years.

Has two beautiful Aussie little girls :-)

Thanks for you reply. I have lived in all of them for more than a year but the problem is when did I cease to be a minor for this purpose (on completing 16y or 18y?) because the requirement states that I need to obtain the certificate only till the time I ceased to be a minor. I hope you are getting my question.

As everyone over the age of 16 has to have police check, I take it as that being the age you are no longer considered a minor. I think you need a police certificate from Tanzania as well, as you were over 16 when you were there.

Thank you guys. I guess I will have to start the procedure for obtaining PCC from Tanzania. Has anybody else had an experience with obtaining PCC from Tanzania? DIAC has only given the address. I don't know how much fees are payable for this and what mode of payment do they accept? Are there any alternative modes of communication?

If you do decide to get one for Oman, it's pretty straightforward for ex residents and only costs three rial. I live in Oman and can provide info if necessary.

I have a similar question. I've lived in four countries (Dubai, D.R.Congo, Kenya and India) in the last 10 years, with more than a year in each of them. However, I've recently renewed my passport so there are no visas or immigration stamps in my new passport. Is there any chance of me going unnoticed for the PCC requirement of the previous three countries? How do DIAC ensure I submit PCC for each of these countries? Any thoughts?

NB: I do not have any criminal record but it's going to be an extremely tedious job to get clearances from all these, esp. Africa.

Thank you Captain. Since I was a minor at that time, I will not require it but I will need it for my parents. I found their website which lists the instructions.

http://www.rop.gov.om/english/howdoi.asp

Is there any specific format/Application Form in which we must apply for the certificate? And do they accept cash payment?

So, if we apply outside of Australia, we do not have to provide police certificate when we upload all the documents, is this correct? Should we wait until the CO asks for it?

I am not sure, I understood this part and I will really appreciate if someone can clarify it for me. Thanks!

quick question... It is mentioned that Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is valid for 12 months from date of issue. My question is, does this validity also apply to PCC obtained from countries where you were ex-residents and will no longer be visiting after obtaining PCC?

For example, I lived in Tanzania during 2005-2007. If I obtain my PCC now, will the 12 month validity apply? Because even after the 12 months have passed, I will not be visiting Tanzania again so no question of any new crime. I hope my question is clear.

Further, do we have to get the visa within the prescribed 12 month period or do we have to travel to Australia within this period? Its not very clear to me. Pl help.
