You could apply for a working holiday visa if you are under 30 years of age. The allows you to live in Australia for 12 months and work for that period, though you can only work for one employer for a maximum of six months. These are very simple to get. Normally granted within 24 hours. Go to immi.gov.au

If you are over the age limit, then you will require a 457 visa and the company will have to arrange this.

As said, you will need some form of visa that will allow you to work. If you come on a tourist visa you are not allowed to do any work, even if it is remotely for a company in Canada.

This was discussed in a thread before, quite a few people thought working for a foreign company remotely and being paid in that companies currency was ok on a holiday visa and no concern of DIAC.

It doesn't make a difference what people on a forum think, it is what immigration think, and it isn't allowed.

Then they are wrong. Otherwise the big multinationals would not need to be using all of the 457 visas. The immigration rules are actually very simple and very clear. If you want to come to Oz for a business meeting, then there are specific visas for that.
