Rupert
First stop for anyone thinking of skilled migration is the Skill Select area of the (DIAC) immigration website: http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/ There are two skilled occupation lists, the SOL and the CSOL. If your occupation is on the SOL you can apply for any of the skilled migrant visas and employer sponsored visas. If the occupation is only on the CSOL then employer or state sponsorship is required as well: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/sol/ To find the points test, click on any of the skilled migrant visas and you will see a "point test" tab, the points test is the same so it doesn't matter which visa you are looking at: http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/index/visas/subclass-189/ Most people will need to take an IELTS test to have enough points to pass the test, to read about the IELTS test, find a test centre and organise a test see below: http://www.ielts.org//test_centre_search/search_results.aspx?TestCentreSearchSubRegion=01502ae9-cf4b-46ba-8214-c5d4331a543d If the occupation is only on the CSOL, then state sponsorship might be required, below are links to the state sponsored occupation lists, these need to be checked one at a time. https://www.migration.sa.gov.au/snol_data http://www.migration.nt.gov.au/visa/sol.html http://www.liveinvictoria.vic.gov.au/visas-and-immigrating/occupation-lists/state-nomination-occupation-list-for-victoria http://www.business.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/25147/NSW-State-Occupation-List-22.07.2013.pdf http://www.migration.tas.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/41927/List_SMP_2012_2013.pdf http://203.210.126.185/dsdweb/v4/apps/web/secure/docs/4654.pdf http://www.canberrayourfuture.com.au/portal/migrating/article/act-occupation-list/ Links change from time to time so if any become out of date please let me know by PM and I will update. Tickled Pink
This is likely to be a useful starting point to quite a lot of people - so probably worth adding as a sticky. http://www.immi.gov.au/find-price/
