Hi

Its a breeze dont worry all they are interested in is if you are able to surport yourself when you get there as long as you are not going to be to much of a burden on the system.

Regards

Mick

Hi,

Re the procedure, I've heard that you have to fill in a questionnaire to give to the doctor at the medical - does anyone know if you get that in advance or on the day.

Also, are copies of your medical records asked for (or a report from your own doctor), or does it just go on the results of the medical itself?? I'm getting all worried about it because although I'm absolutely fine now, I've had some episodes of stress/depression in the past, and don't know if this will affect our application.

Has anyone else been in this situation, and if so, what happened?

Thanks, Jenny

There is a form you fill out - you can download it and fill it out in advance. (Better make sure you have a form to take with you as you cannot rely on the doctor having one.)

It is not standard for them to contact your GP - in fact I'm not even sure they would be allowed to without your explicit consent.

Don't get too worried about it.

If you do a search for medicals on this forum then you will find lots of other people's experiences and advice.

Hi Jenny

The forms you are asking about are here:

http://www.uk.embassy.gov.au/lhlh/Visas%5fand%5fMigration.html

Click on the link for Health & Panel Doctors at the bottom of the page. The relevant forms are 26 & 160.

Stress/depression would NOT render you unfit to migrate unless it was still affecting you so badly that you are unable to live reasonably normally. If that were the case, it is unlikely that you would be applying to migrate in the first place, I suspect.

I have come across two people recently who have been allowed to migrate in spite of the fact that both have had kidney-transplants. Anti-rejection drugs are expensive, plus these people will need regular specialist check-ups for the rest of their lives by consultant nephrologists who really understand the potential problems that can happen following kidney-transplants. Just 5 years ago, a kidney-transplant would have been a No Go Zone with Australia. But medicine has become much more enlightened very recently and with it, so has the attitude of the Australian doctors who make the decisions about the medical criteria.

I doubt very much that you have anything to worry about.

Good luck

Gill

Thanks Gill and Spray21 (sorry, you didn't put your name). I feel very reassured by what you've said, also have located the form so now have a much better idea of what to expect.

Cheers, Jenny xx :D

There you are Gill! You ok?

Jenny Morris, don't worry about the meds at all, and don't rush into them either! My biggest fear was that they would take blood off the children, in any way and they didn't!!!! PHEW!

However the Dr did manage to take blood from my OH and I so they're probably busy cloning us as we speak... write... whatever! That was from a vein by the way, not a finger prick.

All the beat to you both!

Still waiting for your yipeeee post Gill.... :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

The medicals are o.k. We had ours done in Preston and the Dr. was great especially with the children. There were 4 of us and it took about an hour altogehter. You do have to undress to your underwear and I underwent a (very brief) breast examination too.

If you've had any specialist care, you just get copies of letters etc, from the doctor which says what you've had done and what the prognosis is etc.

Good luck

Ali

I just want PIO to be a happy place where people are nice to each other and unicorns poop rainbows
