lofty1
Hi,I hope that this is not a dumb question however is there a restriction to the type of BBQ's that people can have such as coal vs gas? I'm saying this as a friend of mine said that coal ones were not allowed on the state of Victoria due to possible causes to bush fires.Any help is needed before I buy one before I move there in 2 months.Cheers. wolvesaussie
Hi, I think its ok on a normal day to have a coal BBQ but not on a Total Fire Ban day, in the summer when its hot and dry they have days where you can not light fires, on those days you can still use a gas/electric bbq but not a traditional english style one (I THINK thats right anyway)

I know the guy who started the fire with an angle grinder in his back yard was charged - so it wouldn't surprise me.

newjez
Thanks for that. It should be recommended reading for next summer as, in my experience, when the UK has a good summer, Australia has a scorcher! JoandJon
Angle grinders are one of the definite 'NO' items on TFBs (Total Fire Ban Days), (as is pretty much anything that can create a spark. A gas/electric BBQ is ok IF you're within a certain distance from the house, and have ready access to a certain volume of water to immediately put out any problems. But if you're not within a certain distance of a permanent dwelling .... There are also restrictions on the lighting and use of fires (less strict than TFB restrictions) during the entire 'fire season' in many places. More info on the CFA website too - http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/restrictions-during-the-fire-danger-period/
