BritChickx 10,882 Posted April 27, 2017 Had a better driving lesson today. Instructor said it's the best lesson I've had so far, so fingers crossed for my next test. I was nearly up to 70mph on the dual carriageway which was a first, I usually get scared and stay at 60 max.haha.

I think the correct definition is a road where the two directions are separated by a physical barrier like a median strip. There can be one or more lanes in either direction. I was gobsmacked when I found that out. But I learned to drive in Australia. 1 Nearly there! Don't drop the ball now guys! Vaccines are weeks away. Stay safe! Probably is but too busy concentrating. I dont think my instructor would have let me go over 60 otherwise and hes always said dual carriageway! I just make sure to avoid any blue signs XD. Ah yeah I forgot youre an aussie haha you probably know loads more about roads here than I do though.
BritChickx 10,882 Posted April 28, 2017 (edited) What I dont get is how these one lane country roads have national speed limits applied to them. Theres one near me and no way do I do 70! I do like 40 max as you cant even see whats around the corner. Limits 60 i think since its one lane. Still wayy too high though Edited April 28, 2017 by BritChickx

Still wayy too high though Sadly a lot of people don't seem to understand that you don't have to drive at the limit. It is a limit after all. Many roads near me are 60, but you can't do 60 safely. I think in France the speed limits change when it rains which makes sense. An instructor once told me that the more signs you see on a road (slow, Chevrons, etc) the more serious accidents there have been. I was told they write slow on the road whenever there is a speed related death, and put Chevron's on a corner whenever someone fails to take the bend. But he may have just been scaring us. 2 Nearly there! Don't drop the ball now guys! Vaccines are weeks away. Stay safe!

They're definitely there to slow us down and make us more aware of our speed to reduce accidents. No doubt theres been accidents in the past and they've put chevrons up after but im sure theres loads of accident free chevron places too
Johndoe 13,043 Posted April 29, 2017 I always thought that chevrons were there as a reminder to keep the distance from each chevron between you and the driver in front? 1 See my art here: https://kevindickinsonfineartphot.smugmug.com/ Copies free to PIO members. There's a road on the Wirral where they have big signs telling you that it's an accident black spot and how many deaths there have been during the last twelve months. I hate driving along there, passing these signs every few minutes, I always think I'm going to end up in a box. 1 103 visa application lodged February 2013. 143 visa application submitted January 2016. A map of the country with tallies by state as if it's some kind of competition. If it horrifies you enough into slowing down then it is a very good thing. Christmas is always a time of high road trauma so the more reminders the better. Frankly people need to be horrified to change their behaviour hence we have a lot of shock ads.
