Hi,What a great idea to have a nurses thread. My wife Sue 39, is a Sister on a Renal ward in Canterbury,Kent and we are just beginning the long visa trail! We are hoping to emigrate to Perth once the visas are in place and Sue would like to stay in renal nursing if possible as she has 6 years experience.I'm Nick 43,a lorry driver and heavy plant operator and we have twin boys Matthew and Joseph 7. We want to emigrate to try and give them a better start in life and to enjoy a bit more sunshine! We worry so much about all the violence, crime, drugs etc that we just want to get away from the uk,sad though it will be to leave. The N.H.S seems to have become a huge dinosaur with far too many managers and too few staff to do the dirty work! Anyway enough moaning, lets just look forward to the far off day when we finally get on the plane!! Good luck to you, all Sue and Nick

Hello,

I am coming out to join you in Queensland as a nurse director working in the Department of Health. I look forward to meeting some of you. I start in May.

Hi Neil, it must be very difficult for Laura, I would suggest she comes with you for a little while - that way she always has the easy option of returning once she's validated her visa. They're begging for nurses all over Australia.

Hi my name is Catherine started training '87 have not nursed since 04 as had 2 more children - that makes 4 altogether!! Still registered (due to re-reg dec'08) but have been working as an NVQ assessor.

Not sure what to do next!!

Working on getting back on agency which is where most of recent experince is.Have form for transcript of training and ANC assessment saved on PC.

Is it worth filling in the ANC assessment considering my lack of recent expereince just to have that bit done?? Not planning to go until 2010 and hopefully on OH visa as employer sponsored. Want to have all my bases covered though with my end if you know what I mean! Any advice cheers Catherine

It's a while ago since I did my skills assessment, but I do remember that you had to have had something like 12 months out of the last 18 working about 20 hours a week (that's a guess) - someone whose done it recently will know for sure. I do remember a colleague going the state sponsored route because she's been on Mat leave for a year and didn't meet the hours needed to have worked criteria.

Hi Catherine

Ali's correct. Before having your skills assessed you need to have worked for 12 months out of the last 18, working 20 or more hours a month. If your not planning on going till 2010 might be worth trying to do this? That way you can go on a 175 skilled indepenent visa, which will give you more flexability. Again like Ali says, there's always the sponsorship route if need be. Good luck!

Hi I'm Karen living on the Gold Coast. Worked as an Auxilliary nurse back in the UK in the NHS for 13 years. I now nurse on a orthopaedic ward in a private hospital out here and I am currently finishing my Diploma in nursing (Which I did as a distant learning course) and will go on to do my degree in 2009.

Good Luck to all you lucky people escaping the NHS although must say I had 13 happy years with them.

Ok, now I am totally confused!!! I cannot see where it says that you have to have 12 months out of 18 to have your skills assessed on the ANMC site. Can anyone please help? I saw that this was the case for immigration for the 175 visa but not for actual skills assessment. ANYONE?

hi everyone,

the work experience rules changed recently from 18months to 24months but still 20hrs per week, this is the requirement for the visa and not for skills assessment. if you have your skills assessed now they will be vaild for a max of 2years. hope this is of some help to someone!

Sorry, i thought because you were applying for your skills assessment you were going to be applying for a visa pretty soon afterwards. The skills assessment gives you the asco code to put onto your application.

My wife has contacted both ANMC and QNC, for skills assessment you need to have worked as a registered nurse in the last FIVE years. But for visa requirements for skilled visa independent you need to have worked 12 months out of last 24 months.

Alternatively you could try the sponsored temp 457 ( our chosen route). It seems unlikely that if you have not done the 12 out 24 months you will not have enough points to qualify for skilled independent although each case is obviously individual.

Hope this helps clarify.

Hi me again just to recap not nursed since '04 as had 2 kids - still registered and worked as NVQ assessor. Contacted NMC happy enough that NVQ assessing meets their requirements - so the query - does anyone know if this would be OK for skills assessment for ANC I mean what do clinical tutors put if they want to emmigrate??

Any thoughts ,as always ,really appreciated!:jiggy:

hiya cathcol,

have you read "standards of assessment of nurses & midwives for migration" on ANMC website?? It would be nice to think you'd have no problems with skill assessment as newly qualified nurses seem to be able to obtain the letter of determination for their visas, however the above document does mention evidence of work experience as registered nurse for a minimum of 3mths (full-time equivalent) within the last 12 months or you would need to complete a migrant bridging programme. I think it will depend on how you can sell your current role.

I think I would try e-mailing ANMC :

Hi everyone!! I have a diploma in adult nursing been working for nearly six years. I have done one module towards my degree but will not have time to do the other one before we go. I applied for my nursing registration to QNC in January. Can anyone tell me will I still be a registered nurse with a diploma? or will they class me as an enrolled nurse because I have not finished my degree.

Cheers

Lou
