Had you been paying into it for a while?

Not sure if there is any point in me cashing mine in, I've only had it since jan,

Thanks :-)

I think you can cash it in if you have had it less than 24 months...my OH did that earlier this year.

Any longer than 24 months and its frozen till 55 yrs...

So it’s been an eventful year, I’ve been a member on here for a while, the advice I have found on here has been really helpful. I was reluctant to post anything, as after a turbulent process of a visa application, firstly being straight out refused then due to a very good migrant agent having that decision scrapped. But now the permanent visa has been granted and my family and I are now looking to sort the move.

My wife and I are both nurses and would appreciate any advice anyone had about looking for jobs etc. We are really flexible about where we would work but are strongly considering the Queensland area. We are hoping to fly out early January 2014.

Hi Gary, sounds certainly eventful! Healthcare Australia is an agency that you might want to look at if your not sure of where you want to settle as it seems to have offices all over, ...good luck and keep us all posted on how you get on as sharing info on here can be a massive help, obviously . Good Luck!

Hi Mags, I'm Teresa,

A qualified Community Nurse for 10 years, although now I am at the end of a Specialist Public Health Course (Health Visiting). I am looking to emigrate to Oz.....so I am quite new to this process. The problem I have is that I am 45 and do not really want to go down the route of a sponsored visa, for the fear my job will not be secure (although in nursing, I am hoping this is unlikely). So glad you set up this page. All information will be grateful.

I am still in the UK, and just in the process of booking IELTS English test...

Look forward to any info.

Teresa

thanks will do just that, glad you said about colour photocopies as was going to just get black and white ! . My average on academic IELTs worked out at 8.5 , but for extra visa points thought i needed all 8s in each section of IELTs for diac or is that not right ? I want 20 pts for IELTs so are you saying DIAC will accept overall score above 8 for those extra points? thanks

just looked and for 20 Diac points, IELTs need 8s and above in all 4 sections , so am going to make it easier for myself now and do the general . As ANMAC only required academic above 7 s .

Oh yeah...good luck with the generqal, with such great scores on academic youll do fine with general!

Hello all,

I am starting this whole new process, after going to down under live yesterday. I discovered my best option was to go for a Skilled - independent visa, is it the 189? Anyway, I originally was going to look into going through a migration agent, but after seeing the cost of it all, I thought I might try to be brave and do it myself.

Am I right in saying that I need to start with getting ielts done, then submitting my anmac assessment, then I can apply for the expression of interest. Once that comes back with an invitation I can apply.

If anyone has any great hints and tips on how to get through all this, then that will be fab xx

Hello Toodolou,

It seems we are quite similar, as I too am an Itu nurse, but have just qualified so only have 2 months experience so far. I also have a hubby and 2 boys 6 & 7.

I am going to start my ielts first then...fingers crossed, as I want all 8's so I can get the 20 points! EEK! Is it hard?

Hope you get on ok, have you submitted your assessment through anmac yet? x

congratulations on becoming a nurse ! i have only been registered 2 years myself and am quite new to itu (6 months) . Dont worry too much about the IELTs i worked myself up about it and it actually wasnt that bad . I didnt practice , i just read about the structure of the test and process of each part, and made note of hints and tips. i used a book bought on amazon called 'target band 7' its inexpensive, succinct and easy to read. your halfway there if your a native english speaker! i have got to do general test now as didnt get all 8s and want extra points towards my visa. Just getting things together for ANMAC. where are you heading ? have you booked your IELTs ? how are you finding itu?

haha well I have just done a practice on the listening test so far, and scored 8...so fingers crossed I shall keep practising and will book in the next month i think.

I will practise them all and see how I go. Thanks for the info on the amazon book I shall check that out.

Yeah I am liking ITU, but its pretty scary, am just coming off supernumary, and will go onto supervised practice...which is a tad worrying, but I do learn better when Im doing so hopefully it will be fine. Im in a cardiothoracic hospital so its pretty specialised, which im loving, but have heard that in terms of Oz, this may hinder me as it might close the gap slightly when looking for job opportunities, but to be honest. Im pretty flexible as to what I do, obviously I would prefer itu as this will be my experience by the time I get over there but we will just have to see.

I was originally hoping for Perth or Queensland, but from the guys at down under live said yesterday, the market over there is pretty saturated. So I may now look at victoria or nsw. I dont mind really...

Good luck with getting all your ANMAC things together, and your general ielts test again, looking forward to hearing how you get on.

Hello are there any paediatric nurses who can give advice?? I am still in training but went into paed nursing with the full intention of applying for a visa after a years post grad experience. My heart is in the NICU/Special care environment so I am focusing on this however I'm concerned that if I go down this route once qualified and do the special care post grad qualifications I may not be able to go into this in Oz as I see that they advertise NICU posts for midwifes not paed nurses. Can anyone advise further on this please??

i think everyone finds itu scarey at first ! i am only just starting to enjoy it now ~ just getting my head around all the medical devices and it scared me to death being left to look after them! its taking a while to get my ANMAC bits together , feel nervous asking my bosses for a prof ref after only being there 6 months. But going to bite the bullet and do it as cant wait to get to oz . we havent settled here since our reccie. well sounds like your doing great on IELTs already! I did find the reading the hardest . It was a very boring newspaper article and could not find the answer to the questions very easily , and i am quite a methodical person . i dont know if you are meant to guess the answers as some questions were a bit vague. i guess if you have time practising would be beneficial .. i worked a few nights prior and although had good intentions to have a practice i didnt as felt too tired. stay in touch , we can help each other along! BTW i really liked Brisbane , amazing city but i personally dont cope well with humidity. we didnt see the best of nsw either as there was lots of flooding and rain when we visited the east coast .
