I think I give up

Recommended Posts

Just had a argument on a forum with a prospective about why he should consider where he might get a job first, as an accountant, against why thinks that is unimportant as he will get a job anywhere and should live where suits his hobbies first.

I give up. The next person that says I am off to WA to earn $200k as an unskilled operator in the mining game, I am going to say fine. Go for it. Of course you will be snapped up on arriving.

There are some real dingbats out there at the moment aren't there?! Heck for $200k as an unskilled I might pop over myself!

Lets hope that there are one or two who arrive forewarned and forearmed!

Hell, why am I leaving?!?! Haha. Honestly, people write a post asking for advice and when they hear what they don't want to hear, it all turns sour.

I'm giving up with the homesickness if we are talking giving up - sheesh, all these years and all I had to do was to pull myself together and change my mind. Who knew!

I should have really known what WA was like by reading the common forum on here. It's full of 'get rich quick' 'rape the land' 'who gives a **** now' type ppl :( Very disheartening. I strongly disagree with mining and suspect that WA is in the midst of the beginnings of falling on its arse. Mining companies are laying ppl off all over the place, when WA can no longer rely upon the finances of mining it is going to be in serious trouble.

You do know that the computer you are using is the product of over 200 minerals from around 50 mines. Not including the plastics from oil. In fact there is probably less than 10 things in your home that are not as a result of mining.

True mate. As VS has said, they don't want to hear it. And, let's face it, there are plenty who'll tell them what they want to hear. It's been noticeable over recent months that there has been an increase in posters who are critical of Australia - in my view at least. I think that says something about how it isn't able to match the absurd expectations that some posters have prior to landing here. Jesus, if we end up with a recession here then there'll be blood on these forums as the previously gung ho arrivees realise that you can't earn $200k for driving a truck and start complaining in ernest. When they clash with the smugly established ones who've been here for decades it won't be pretty.

A quote traced back to 1546 "There's none so blind as those who will not see" nearly 500 years later, still fits some people perfectly.

Some financial experts are saying that China is having a slowdown, before it takes off again. You dont know what to believe .

But I do think the Aussie economy is in trouble.

Tassie is in major recession.I dont know whether its official, but we have seen a massive decline in everything down here, over the past 5 years.

Construction and Retail are suffering badly.Theres so much unemployment.

Some of the retailers are now thinking that the Aussie dollar dropping, is a licence to print money.

A prime example; We bought some Digital kitchen scales 2 weeks ago, in one of the big electrical retail stores , $24.99

This week $39.99.I asked why they had gone up so much, and was told that the prices are going up, because the dollar is dropping and its more expensive to import.

If this is what is going to happen, the dollar dropping is certainly not going to be in the favour of the consumer.Things are bad already, and by increasing prices, its going to hurt the ecomomy even more.

Problem is that they never reduced prices when the dollar was strong!

Exactly, and now the prices will go even higher, pure greed.

They will have a quick sale to make people forget what price items were and then when the sale has finished the prices will be sky high.

They cash in ,every which way, and the consumer suffers, everytime.I think prices will rocket, and the dollar will be blamed.

Ive noticed the supermarkets reduce items for a week, before the price increases .They always do that, regardless of the dollar.Just another way of masking price increases.
