Wellington point commute to Brisbane

Recommended Posts

Hi I can find a few threads on here relating to this but they are quite old. OH about to be offered a job in Brisbane so we are hoping to be there from Manchester Uk at some point in the next 6 months

OH will be working close to South Brisbane station and me in the CBD, and we are looking at wellington point as our number suburb to set up home. Can anyone tell the costs and timings of trains for the commute please .

My sister lives there and it's where we are going in August....... We used Birkdale train station on our last visit, my sister said it was closer to her house. They run every half hour and take about 50 mins to the city if I remember rightly, and they were always on time when we used them. You can pay for a single fare, but if you using the train all the time you can get a GO card. They can be used on the buses, trains & ferries. You just load them and GO....lol!

Exciting isn't it

IIRC we went through 4 zones.... Birkdale to Southbank. Could've been 5 though.... It was 12 months ago.

Have a look at the map http://translink.com.au/resources/tickets-and-fares/fares/zone-map.jpg

Is it just the 2 of you moving? Or will you have kids in tow?

I live in wellington point, have been here a year now, it's a lovely family area. There are some great schools as well. It's about an hour on the train. Feel free to pm your email and I can answer any questions x

Commute times around greater Brisbane can be VERY unexpected and not dependent on distance as some might expect.

For example I live in Springfiled (30k's ish from the CBD about 5 K's further). Its about a 10 min drive to the Gailes train station and then 27 minute train trip to the CBD (37 minutes+ walk in CBD).

Wellington Point is prob a 5 minute car/walk to the local station and a 49 minute train each way (53 minutes+ Walk in CBD).

Its all a matter if you can grab a express train that skips stations and how many stops along the way. I suggest checking the Translink journey planner site using your actual commute times.
