Paul2412 Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 I'm currently on a 457 Visa (expires November 2016) with my employers. I would like to convert this to a PR Visa. Currently, the 2 options available are the Temporary Transition Stream and the Direct Entry Stream. As I've only worked for the company for 7 months I don't qualify for the Temporary Transition Stream (minimum 2 years with that employer). I could continue to work for the employers until the 2 years is up but my problem is that (as an IT developer), the company is slowly moving away from my area of expertise and into a new area of technology. I have a good relationship with the employer, and was considering asking them to process a PR Visa under the Direct Entry Stream path. This would require me passing a skills assessment with the ACS and also (I assume) attaining a minimum score of 6.0 in the IELTS exam. Has anyone ever done this before and is it an easy process? I'm thinking that I will tell the employer that I'll cover the cost of the application ($3,000) in order to make it a better option for them. Any advice would be welcome on either this path or any other path that would be open to me for PR. Also, for the Temporary Transition Stream do I need to have worked for the same employer for 2 years or could I also work for another company doing the same job? Thanks!
Rupert Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 You would need two years with the same employer for the transition stream. If your employer is willing and you meet the criteria for the direct entry then that is an option. Another option might be skilled migration.

Tickled Pink Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Hi Paul If you hold a UK passport you won't need to do the IELTS as this passport gives you automatic 6's I believe. If you meet the criteria then it's quite a straight forward process. Ours took 4 months, we did it without an agent. But that was really quick, and it seems to vary widely. Fingers crossed it wont take too long

I'm going for the Transition Scheme as in October I'll have been here 2 years. I'm a bit baffled by the cost of the Visa. According to the pricing table here: https://www.immi.gov.au/fees-charges/visa-pricing-table.htm The cost of the Visa is $540 (click expand all, then search Employer Nomination Fee). I'm thinking that this is what the employer pays to nominate me? I'm then charged the $3,500 plus the $1760 for my application? As ever, the Immi website seems rather cryptic! If anyone has any experience in what the costs would be for the following: Main applicant (ENS 186 Transition Scheme) Secondary applicant (over 18) Costs payable by the company that is nominating me That would be great!

This will not be refunded if the visa is refused for any reason - some prefer to wait until the employer nomination is approved before submitting their application but this increases the overall processing time (around 3-6 months currently). Medical will cost you approx $400 and you also need criminal record checks from home Country & Aus.

No they would have to wait 2 years exactly before they can lodge a nomination.

Julija Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Hi guys, my company brought me to Australia on 457 visa almost one and a half year ago. I'd like to apply for PR through Temporary Transitional Stream 186 once I reach 2 years. Do you know if I can actually do that without involving the agent, or is the process too complicated? I'm sure I can submit all necessary documents from my side in the timely manner but I'm not sure what documents should I collect from my employer (e.g. the training requirements). Is there a checklist?

There's a document checklist on the DIBP website for both employer and employee. It's up to you whether you wish to use a migration agent. If you don't use one, make sure to thoroughly read the information on the DIBP website and look at forum threads as well to make sure you know what's required.
