MARYROSE02 Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 These Indian summer days in the mid 20's just seem to go on for EVER! Funny though. At Clovelly yesterday after swim and sitting in sun with Alex, as soon as sun went down we got up to go at same time as two Aussie ladies. As I passed them I said "oh well, that is the end of that glorious English weather. Now it is back to nasty Aussie cold!" They DID laugh - eventually!
northshorepom Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 You've got a very short memory. It rained heavily on 3 days in the past week
Ellie 2 Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 But I think there was only 1 of these days when the sun didn't shine.
northshorepom Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 I think 2, where I was Don't get me wrong, I like the climate here, have posted frequently to that effect. But Dave's posts give an impression to people that I think is wrong - comes across as if it's reliably and consistently gorgeous, which as we all know, it isn't. It does rain quite a lot here.....and there are also lots of hours of sunshine and blue skies
blossom Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Yer, I often think that about people's posts on Facebook. Someone's today was about Adelaide being 27c today and how great that was. They didn't mention that it is supposed to be very windy with a 50% chance of some rain. The wind changes a lovely beach day into a looks lovely, but lots of things you can't do day.

Brilliant day for getting washing dry though. Except it's now clouded over where we are and I'm constantly looking outside to check it isn't raining.
GOTTY Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 Seem to remember its rained a lot over the last few months in Sydney ... my friend lives there and had visitors for a few weeks and they had crap weather

MARYROSE02 Posted April 27, 2013 Author Posted April 27, 2013 Yip; when it rains it bloody rains! Get on message! JUST a shower and NEVER on the weekend!

My washing is still out and I am not planning on going home from the pub for a while yet!

I LOVED swimming in The Solent but I never made it to the end of September. Here, without being a masochist, I swim all year round.

Has anyone ever claimed you can swim or year round in the Solent or the sun shines less in Sydney ? These threads are just coming across as being very defensive. We get it, you love Sydney

We get it, you love Sydney And I want to share That love with all those prospective New Chums who are hoping to join me in La Dolce Vita. Look at my original post which was tongue in cheek. You just assume that I am posting an anti UK thread. Sometimes I do. Sydney is a wonderful place to live and most Poms agree with me.

Its nothing to do with thinking it is anti UK, it just seems as though you are justifying something all the time. Good for you for knowing what most Brits think
flag of convenience Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 I guess the sun must cease to shine with the rainfall being greater by far than London's.
blossom Posted April 27, 2013 Posted April 27, 2013 We lived in Sydney back in 1999 and the locals all in their hats and coats used to tell my hubbie he was mad for swimming in the sea in winter. I'm inclined to agree with them. I was shocked by just how cold Sydney gets. Same with Adelaide. Brrrrrr.

Certainly it gets cold but in early arvo, if it is sunny, the temperature may peak at 19/20 degrees and if u r sheltered from the wind, it can be very pleasant. I favour Redleaf, Watsons Bay (both have year-round shark nets) or Bronte. Last year I shared the pool at Bronte with the Welsh RU team who seemed to enjoy their swim in the winter sun.
d4ddyc00l Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I'm not under any illusions that it will be all year round sunshine, but I know it's going to be better than Bury's weather so that's good enough for me. At least if it rains regularly, it'll make having a nice garden easier. I really want to be able to have orange and lemon trees in my garden, and maybe an olive tree.
MARYROSE02 Posted April 29, 2013 Author Posted April 29, 2013 Wonderful again in Sydney today snd yesterday. Swims at Neilsen Park on Sun - packed like all the beaches - & Redhead today - much quieter but just as hot. Of course Sydney has a winter but it doesn't feel like it lasts from Sept to April the way it can do in UK.

MARYROSE02 Posted April 29, 2013 Author Posted April 29, 2013 Seriously, so what. It is a different country with different weather. There is a cartoon in Private Eye that always makes me think of you because thesis blokes lying on towel in his Speedos "sunbathing" in the rain as his wife looks down at him from under her umbrella. The caption is "for goodness sake Brian, do u always have to be SO stoical!' As a matter of fact, I don't cite the weather when I am asked why I came to Oz. I have forgotten why I came. Now I just 'live' here. But every other Pommie I ask the same question ALWAYS mentions the weather.
