LKC
Lol! Maybe they are blind and can't see your avatar? I think they just jumped on you rather than concentrating on the question in hand? Despite several posts to try and steer away from the subject, they still persist? Maybe they are bored lol! It was eldests birthday party today. We had a pool party at the swimming pool where they have their lessons. It is fortunate that I didn't post a photo of the party and details of where it was held, lest someone could come and kidnap the children. However, in the interest of staying faithful to the original post, I thought I would post a picture of her birthday cake. I have no idea as to whether it was tasty or not. I didn't try any. Tulip
That cake looks lush! Well this thread has spurred me on to lose weight; this morning I made a meal plan for every single day, dinner, lunch, breakkie and snacks, and tonight I have had LUSH Mexican bean burgers on wholemeal rolls with baked potato wedges, salad, and home made dip from natural yogurt and lime juice. I am stuffed! Must share, this cake is from a couple that had a puppy from me, they brought me this beautiful cake when they picked him up, I nearly cried!!! Harpodom
Ok a question for you since my op I haven't been able to swallow, so max I've had is probably 400ml of liquid a day, full stop, nothing to eat because I can't, so why am I gaining weight. Since coming out from the op I've been walking everyday but still I'm gaining weight. not sure, could be fluid retention, especially if your albumin level is low
Harpodom
I do understand the need for safety, for personal reasons I have to be very careful myself, but people put photos of their children on the Internet everyday, FB, Instagram, Flickr etc Children's photos appear in newspapers, magazines etc so I don't see anything wrong with it, unless like I say they were naked or you gave your full address, names of the children, ages, what school they attended etc. FWIW, I agree with Sammy on this one (though not the tone of the posts). Posting pics of your kids on an open access website is fraught with potential cyber safety issues. Its bad enough on FB when you know who your audience is, but on here, literally any nutter could be watching. If I was admin, I'd recommend deleting the posts in question. Good job your not admin then  But seriously tell me why you think she has put her kids in danger? If someone wanted photos of children they could easily log on to any school website and find plenty, do you complain to all these schools? Rossmoyne
I was never diagnosed with anorexia or bulimia, but in my late teens/early twenties there was about a five year period where I would swing between obsessive dieting (as in I would have nothing more than a tin of plum tomatoes and an apple every day for weeks) and bingeing and purging, either by sticking my fingers down my throat or by taking laxatives. I am 5 ft 7 and when I went to uni at 18 I was 7 stone, which is about 44kg I think. I also used to obsessively exercise, I remember I had a Cindy Crawford workout video that I would do three or four times in a row. When I was 24 my beloved dad died unexpectedly, and I started drinking and bingeing, and my weight started to go up. I am now 38 and I can absolutely sympathise with your daughter. I don't eat unhealthily, I do drink still, although I do have long periods of not doing so and I moderate my intake when I do have a drink, but it has until recently been nigh on impossible for me to lose weight. I can absolutely tell you that I don't eat chocolate, or crisps, or biscuits, or cakes, we dont have puddings after dinner, or anything else like that. I don't think it is as simple as calories in vs calories out. The human body (or any other animal actually) isn't a simple closed system. It is a very complex and delicately balanced one, with hormones, feedback systems and so on. I don't think that it is too hard to assume that it would be possible to knock this out of whack in any number of ways. I personally believe that we have been fed (excuse the pun) a pack of lies. I don't think that saturated fat is bad for us, and I do think that this low-fat nonsense that has been pedalled is actually the cause of the obesity epidemic. I think that if we went back to good, clean eating with meat, fish, eggs, butter and other full fat dairy, lots of veggies and limited fruit (because fruit is full of fructose, and actually I would bet that the fruit we evolved eating would have been less sweet), and cut out the supposedly healthy margarines, oils from plants whose oil is only suitable for consumption once it has been bleached, washed and deodorised, and stopped eating processed low fat rubbish and cut down on 'healthy wholegrains' and fruits and juices, things would improve. I have made some small changes (such as swapping margarine for butter, reducing the amount of wheat I eat, and not being afraid of the fat on meat) and I have finally started to lose a bit of weight, so maybe this isn't so far off the mark. LKC I totally agree with your comments about modern diet. The obsessiveness with "low fat" and "fat free" is a laugh at times as you only have to look at the food label to see the amount of sugar that has been piled in whatever product you are buying to counteract the lack of taste. There are too many artifical additives in commercially prepared food as well. Way back in the early 1980's, as a 30 year old, I developed many allergies. Long story short - after years of being given potions to calm and control the dermatitis, years on strict diets to try and control my ever blossoming weight, and consulting numerous specialists, in desperation I ended up at a Naturopath. Allergy tests showed I was allergic to Salycilate... (asprin), which is used as a preservative in so many commercially prepared foods. 4 weeks later after following a completely wholefood diet - that is nothing out of a jar, packet, tin... just fresh meat, fish, veg and fruit. No signs of allergy and dermatitis gone, and weight almost back to normal. From that came my awareness of exactly what I should be putting in my mouth and I reverted to the diet that I had grown up with. Butter instead of margarine - veg from the garden or an organic market - free range eggs etc etc, and everything I cook is based on that. Want a curry... cook it from scratch.... want a pizza - make it from scratch. I never ever use anything artificial and only ever buy wholemeal flour, bread with no preservatives etc etc. But as far as the weight issue is concerned, I also think that stress, unhappiness, depression etc, can have a very negative affect on the delicate chemical balance in our bodies and can also lead to weight gain - and weight loss too in some cases. We are all very different in mind and body and what suits one doesn't suit another, but I really am convinced that the fast food - ready meal mentality of modern life, should take a great deal of the blame for weight issues of today. It most certainly isn't just "Caloriies in against Calories out", as some people maintain. Perhaps those who do are the very lucky ones that this actually works for.....! Rossmoyne
Another thing that gets me is that overweight people are often embarrassed to go to the gym because it is full of young, fit, athletic types. Maybe they could have gyms for people who are overweight. Oh M2M that could be another business venture for you! Such a brilliant idea! I would come.... well if it wasn't such a long hike to Cairns from Perth every day!!

Rossmoyne
I did not write the article did I? So you don't think obesity is becoming a problem? As for depression dont even get me started on that. Yes there are people who suffer from depression and it must be very difficult for them but there are far too many people who claim depression when really they just need to pick themselves up and get on with it as we all have problems that are hard to mentally deal with at some point in our lives You might wish you never said the last sentence of your post. No you didn't write the article, but your attitude is appalling. Just hope you never have depression or a weight issue!

Tulip
Running in the evenings I make sure I only run a particular circuit (I interval run) so that the slimmer models can't see me or over take me! Those first few runs I felt embarassed, I thought, people will be looking at me thinking 'What an unfit person, look at how red she is and how slow she runs', but pretty soon I felt proud to be out there running. No matter how slow I run, no matter how much I am exerted from just running a minute at a time, I am still doing it when so many don't bother. So I think I would still go to the gym if I could, I really can't afford to, but if I could I would. You have just as much right to be there as anyone else! Those gym bunnies started off unfit too at some point I'm sure...and they're all slurping revolting energy drinks!

It most certainly isn't just "Caloriies in against Calories out", as some people maintain. Perhaps those who do are the very lucky ones that this actually works for.....! It is, its simple physics. Same as saying 'energy in=energy out'. If you expend more energy than you intake, that energy MUST come from somewhere: usually from fat. When that runs out, muscle. Stress and depression can cause weight to go up or down. But for the weight to go up, it will be due to overeating and/or lack of exercise.
