MACDONALDO67
Well I haven't even started the administration side of things yet never mind actually being in Australia but here we go already and we are only in Warrington, England ! Sat downstairs tonight (Friday) on the computer tidying up a few loose ends before getting my things together to go in for the nightshift. Suddenly there's a stampede and a couple of loud shrieks and screams from upstairs. I thought it was the kids messing about but then the thunder of my son coming down the stairs to alert me to a Cardinal Spider in the bedroom upstairs. Now anyone that doesn't know what a Cardinal spider is well that's the type that have the big bodies with the long legs. The one's that come out in September in their droves. The one's that live behind that bag of rubbish you haven't moved from the garden wall for about 20 years. That Cardinal spider. All they do is eat, breathe, sleep and mate and that's it ! Anyway Spiderman leaps into action with a glass, onwards and upwards to the bedroom. There I find my wife stood on the bed, my daughter in histerics and this poor old 5cm Cardinal Spider frozen rigid to the floor pondering what to do now. So carefully collected spider into the glass, frantically the little bugger tries climbing the glass to escape, I turn around and there's all 3 of them, wife, daughter and son, all stood on the bed in fear. So one did their best to try and explain that these little critters don't do any harm and upon sticking my fingers into the glass to touch the spider to show that they don't do any harm out come the shrieks and screams from my daughter, the "don't do it dad" from my son and "no Al no" from my wife. Now my question is that if this is what they are like for one of these harmless, mind your own business spiders, what sort of life am I going to have watching the pantomime unfold for a Funnel Web or Red Back :biglaugh: . So released back into nature, outside, was this Cardinal knowing that it was only going to make its way back via the garage. And I was thinking, I wonder if I could get a visa for a Spider Catcher. I probably could do that. There must be a market for it somewhere, could start a business here based on people's fear. :twitcy: Put a smile on my face just before going into work tonight, it was so funny, well for me not for them. Anyway I know three others who won't be getting much sleep. Spent the time just before I left searching the house:biglaugh: . I suppose I'm going to have to fight for a place in the bed in the morning now.
Guest fatpom
:biglaugh: Funnelwebs, Redbacks, Whitetails and all the other aussie spiders do much the same.... eat, breathe and mate. You can have some fun with the little hunter types when they wander across your computer screen (not necessarily baby Huntsmen? but thats maybe what they are at about 5mm long). They like to attack the mouse curser. They'll stalk it and then pounce never tiring of the game.

Mind you at least I'll get more computer time because after I tell them this they won't want to go on the computer :biglaugh:

The Wottons
I went to visit a friend on Tuesday in Hullbridge Essex, and she had been biten by a spider that very morning. She opened the door to get the milk in and had nothing on her feet. The wind blew it on to her foot and she was trying to shake it off. She didn't realise at first that she had been biten until her foot and calf muscle went numb. She phoned NHS direct who told her to take antihistamine (probably spelt wrong!!) which she did. Eventually the feeling in her leg came back, but her toe was numb all that day. People keep going on about the spiders in OZ and how I should be careful, but they bite here too! shaza
Im a little worried about spiders too especially as my hb is electrician and will be working in lofts etc ooooohhhh!!.. I dreampt last night my baby had a deadly spider in his bed. I think thats because my ozzy friend was just telling me hours before how she had to remove a tarantula from her hallway with a broom. She said everytime she hit it, it may a huge thud!! Nice. Something to look forward to!! :err:

Guest claire&fred
What funny stories. I am fine with daddy long legs but anything else just freaks me out. My mum had a spider in her house, it was a big one, and she just left it, it used to just sit on living room floor and watch telly. One night she was watching telly and it was sitting on the sofa next to her! She could not believe it, but just left it as it was not really bothering her. Anyway next night it was sitting on the sofa but where she sits, so she thought "right that's it, it obviously is getting to at home". So she popped it in a glass and took it outside and gently released it. She said, it practically raced her to get back inside before she shut the door! It had obviously got used to having the house to itself whilst she had been in hospital for 2 weeks and felt that it was it's home and not mums! Claire Some of these spiders are like the illegal migrants we have in Britain. You no sooner deport them from your abode and within the next few days they have made their way back in again ! :biglaugh:
gazza
dont worry weve been here since nov 2007 and only seen 1 redback on the garage facia, and 3 whitetails in the house which was aconcern but all you do is bug-bomb the house and you are critter free for 3 months. anyway if you come to perth you dont have to worry about the funnel web spider.
