Estimating Monthly Costs ???

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am applying for state sponsorship in WA.

One of the questions asks to estimate my monthly outgoings, here's what i have:

TV and Internet $120

Rent $2000

Food $800

Gas and Electric $200

Water $30

Health Care $180

I have a family of four, myself, my wife, my 10 year old daughter and my 6 year old son.

If anyone can add anything to this list i may have misssed, or if they have a different opinion any comments would be appreciated.

Also if anyone has completed the WA state sponsorship form and has been accepted, i'd love to know what your estimates were.

Many thanks

Phil

Hi what about phones mobile and land, also the running and payment of a car, we also seem to pay a lot for kids!! ie swimming, dance etc but I don't think you have to tell them everything its just something to consider for when you get here. It costs us about $400 a month for activities but then we have 3 kids!hope this helps Julie

I think your list is pretty accurate but the food is more $1000 + than $500,we rent so don't pay council tax, also we pay Telstra about $150 for internet and tv box but we do not have foxtel as I think its a waste of money!

I'm not in Oz yet but my thoughts based on quite a bit of research:

Food: 200-300/wk (800-1200 ish a month). From what i can tell 500 is a bit optimistic for a family of 4

Broadband/landline: 70-130 (depends on package)

Foxtel/sky: 50-130 (depends on package)

Gas/elec: anywhere from 100-400/month! Seems to vary a lot by state/house/usage. 200 seems a reasonable estimate

Water rates/council tax/buildings ins: don't pay if you're renting

Water usage: 50-80, although you may not have to pay if you're renting

Contents ins: 30-80 (depends on cover)

Rest seem about right.

Car insurance, mine is $90 a month for fully comp, and that is not a new car. So totally depends on what you get. Also, my petrol costs are about $300 a month just for one car. I do drive 45 minutes to work each day, but I assume having kids you will end up doing more driving than me when not working.

We spend $600 a month on supermarket shopping for two of us. That is not buying snacks, or super expensive stuff. And no alcohol included in that as we don't have it.

Has two beautiful Aussie little girls :-)
