These bring back a few memories! I lived in or around Cambridge for many years. First lived just off Mill Road in various shared houses, and then we lived in Cherry Hinton before moving to Ely, Saffron Walden and finally Wickhambrook (although I continued to work in Cambridge even after we moved away) . In the November pictures there is a picture of Specsavers, where I worked for many years (about nine I think). I worked in the one in Bradwells Court until they knocked it down, then briefly in the one in Fitzroy Street and then in Lion Yard.

Ah, he snapped me! There I am in July 2012 and I didnt know it LOL

Fab place isnt it? Even off Mill Rd is getting a bit more upmarket and I am told that it is the place to do a pub crawl with more pubs to the square inch than anywhere else in town! The Mill Rd Christmas market was pretty good in December.

We're villagers actually, now residing just outside the city on the London/Liverpool St line and I love it!

Had a couple of pairs of glasses from there in my time!

It's been posh for years doncha know......check out the prices of the big villas on St.Barnabas' Rd, eye-watering.....

Pubs up there are ace...Live and Let Live, Kingston Arms, Six Bells and Empress the pick IMO. We used to do a good crawl up the road. Had to do it coming *from* town because if you started in Romsey by the time you'd got to the end drink foolhardiness would have taken a hold and then, well, the Kite's only a short walk away, isn't it? Seems a shame not to have a swift one in the Free Press, Cricketers, Elm Tree, Tram Depot, Clarendon, eh lads?

If you know the Shelford Deli - and I hope you do if you live down that way! - it's owned by a couple who are really good friends of ours. Think they might have met in Oz actually whilst on WHVs, Drew (guy who does all the food) was cheffing in a place in Cammeray, Sydney for a bit

Quite like the Cambridge Blue myself - good food there with meat sourced from the Shelford Butchers and a very nice line in beers according to my beer drinking friends (our knitting group gathers there occasionally) and my dad had a business in St Barnabas Rd for many years - that was always the expen$ive street. Indeed I do patronise the Shelford deli - did you know they had recently renovated into the adjacent building and now have more space for coffee/lunchers than they did before?

Yup....I looked over the plans for Drew, thought it was a great opportunity. They were doing really well with the deli and catering business out of TINY premises, and Drew always wanted to expand to be able to do a sit down tea room/cake/light meals sort or cafe as in his view Shelford didn't really have anywhere for that despite having a quite thriving business community and a load of "ladies who (would like to) lunch". He got lucky, the freehold on the building they were in came up for sale and the house next door came on the market at the same time so they bought both and expanded into the land that was on the neighbouring property to make bigger kitchens, storerooms and the cafe

I've not seen it "in the flesh" - we went round theirs for lunch a month or so before we came out here, so must have been Sep 11 or something, and they were about halfway through the build at the time. Everything I've heard has been good

Is there ANYTHING in this world you're not aware of?

Loads!

Sorry, just reminiscing a bit with a bit of self-indulgent stuff about my mates' business, since some other PIO random knows it

:D

Yup, a random "gee it is a small world" moment. I am indeed one of the Shelford "ladies who lunch"! (Actually it's more lady who coffees since I am on a major diet these days!) And I was quite annoyed that there was nowhere you could buy a decent coffee when we first came here. I thought it was a huge gap in the market. He does a good job there!
