Hello All,

Hope to find you all in good spirits, i just want to bash something out with you. Came out on a 457 sponsered visa to work as a nurse, took myself to Aphra with eligibility letter i had ( applied last April myself) and still waiting for registration. This is the case since the middle of December. My employment are constantly at me, and have stated that from this friday i will not have anymore shifts or pay until it comes through. I applied myself last april and then hopped on the internet to find employment, an agency picked me up, interviewed me and i got the job. I forwarded my letter to them along with many others for visa, employment etc., purpose and thought no more about it until i laneded and made my way to aphra. Its getting on top of me, and to really put the icing on the cake, really not enjoying new employment.

Any suggestions....

Thank you

Its hard when you are not getting on well with an employer on a 457 visa.

I dont know much about APHRA, my only suggestion would be to consider applying for GSM PR, least this gives you the flexibility to work where ever you want.

Do you know why APHRA are taking so long?

I was wondering that too. I thought it would be like teaching or any other profession, that you could not work here without registration.

You can't work as a qualified nurse without your registration, unless the OP is getting 'unqualified' shifts

I will just mirror what others have said, no registration, not legally allowed to work. If your employers are aware of this then they are breaking the law.you will not be covered by your employers insurance should anything happen to you or your patients.

Thats worrying, why haven't you got registration yet?? They told me if i turn up with my letter it will take few days, whats holding it up??

And the visa isn't at stake as is it sponsored by the hospital and they are still employing her. Before my NMC registration in the uk came through i was on the ward as a staff nurse but on nursing assistant pay and slightly limited jobs, i imagine that is what OP is doing so not doing anything wrong.

You cannot work on a ward in oz as a registered nurse without the appropriate registration. The op may be working as a nursing assistant but we don't know that until they post again. Until then we can only comment on what has been posted.

Hi, if you could be more specific in your post it might not get such negative responses. Are you working as a nursing assistant at the moment?

I was wondering that! Once we have our registration in principal, I thought it would be a case of just turning up and getting our card.

My understanding is that you get your letter of eligibility from AHPRA and then turn up (within 12 months) in person to finalise and receive your registration reasonably quickly once you present in person.
