Hiya all, looking for more advice regarding my two older chilren coming to Oz with us. As a family we have been offered a sponsership with a company (if oh gets the job) and will travel on 457 visa. My older children have been offered the 2yr working visa. Want to ask if anyone has been in simular position cause if they want to stay after whv expires what do they do?.

My daughter is just finishing her A levels this year, was giong to go to uni, however wants to come to Oz. Son has been working for groundsmaintenance firm for three years. I hope they will love it in Oz as we have never been there, but hey lifes too short and just want to grab the opportunity if it comes our way. My god though what a decision to make, on a daily basis my head is all over the place. Are we diong the right thing, what if it doesnt work out, we will have nothing to come back to.......

Does everyone contemplating this move go through the doubts? We are just waiting for decision from company which should be within next few days. Oh has had e-mail to ask if he is still interested, last interviews tom eek.

Um, WHVs are only one year and to get the second year you have a commitment to work in regional Australia otherwise you stay at the one year. If your daughter is doing A levels why is she still not dependent upon you? Surely she could be included in your 457 visa? Your son is a more difficult proposition - if he has a skill which is on the list then he could apply for a visa in his own right. Or way down the track if you stay and if you get permanency and if he is still of the same mind then if you are all in Australia he will be the last remaining relative. Your daughter really should consider her university options - take a gap year by all means but then what? She could study in Australia if she wants to stay with you but would have to pay international student fees if you are on a temporary visa or she could still justify domestic fees back in UK. BTW, your daughter really would be well advised to complete her A levels whichever way she goes!

The short answer to the question in your thread title, is that if your children are on working holiday visas (I assume that is what you meant) then at the end of the visa they either go back to UK or they have to qualify for another visa. The WHV is a one year visa by the way, but a second one can be applied for if three months of regional work is undertaken.

What is your plan? The 457 is a temporary visa, are you thinking the whole family will have a short adventure or will you look for a path to get PR for yourselves?

It seems like a bit of a shame that an 18 year old would give up university aspirations just to go to Australia.

No short adventure, we are looking to gain PR. Its the older children thats the worry. My daughter has 6 mths left to complete her A levels which she will do she still lives at home and we support her however, has been debating for a while not giong to univercity. I can only advise her to stay in uk in uni but she has her own mind. They want to come to Oz if oh gets job.

Its trying to give them the best advice I can with info provided.

I would get your daughter on your visa application if she is dependant on you and in FT education. Makes the most sense.

Your son would need a 1 year WHV (and perhaps his skills are on the wanted list somewhere but he may need quals). He would then have to do 3 months regional work during that year to extend and gain a second year. After that he would most likely have to leave Aus (unless he is sponsored or some such).
