Mac2405
Hi All, Newbie to this site! Just looking for some advice. I'm looking to make the big move to the sun and was wondering how the best way to go about it is. I'm an underground trained miner, mainly worked on developments driving new roadways, with heading training, out bye training and various other desired training(first aid etc.). Is the best way to go about this to come over to Aus on a working hliday visa, and then look whilst out there.... then when, and if, a position is found, then start making the plans to make it more permanent, or to try and secure something before coming out? Also, if anyone knows, where is the main concentrate of the recruiters for the mining industry? as from Google searches, it seems that a few companies have the hiring duties of the mines rather than the mines themselves? Any help be much appreciated. Mac
VERYSTORMY
In Oz, mining is very split between coal and hard rock. In WA the mines are hard rock, so things like gold, nickel.... Most of the coal mines are on the east coast and i dont know much about coal mining. If you want to do hard rock, your chances of getting a job will depend on what equipment you are experienced with using. Have you driven boggers, jumbo or anything like that? The problem you will have is that most mines will not touch someone on a working holiday visa as you can only work for one employer for 6 months and its too much a pain in the neck to hire for 6 months. The other is that your chances of sponsorship are VERY low. I dont think it is even on the skills list as general miner.
