Transferring to 887 Visa

LYNDAMUMFORD

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon

Has anyone out there resently transferred over to the 887 visa? We have been quoted $1600 PLUSthe application fee of $325 but feel that we may be able to do the workorselves. We are already in Australia & will have met all criteria by this September and have all evidenceprepared ready to be certified, just wondering how tough it really could be???

Thanks Millie, and well done you on doing it yourself!

We cant lodge til Sep as although we got the Visa in March 11, we didnt touch down til the September, so to fulfill the 12 mths working & 2 years living we will need to wait, however for $325 & a bit of effort I often wonder if its worth putting it in at the 18 month mark!

Thanks for your reply Millie & I will keep you posted!

hey again Lynda

I see what you mean. I touched down in November but my time didn't started until 21st December which is when I moved out of the metropolitan area. I am only just beginning my time. Right now I don't feel I will fully relax in Oz until that 887 is safely in my hands.

I think you are right, that the two years is from when you take up residence in the postcode.

Best of luck

I really wish I could remember who I spoke to on here (sorry, head like a sieve at the moment), but I contacted someone who had just obtained their 887 to ask their advice about how the process to gain PR after meeting the conditions of a 475/489 visa. They did it themselves and said it was a lot more straightforward than the original visa appl and they did it all online.

As Milliem, we are doing the original 489 appl ourselves (with a lot advice from PIO).

Did you do the original visa appl yourselves?

If you feel you can do it yourselves, it looks quite straight forward if you have met the requirements.

If you are applying for it online, the same rules would apply with other applications, as long as you colour scan the original documents you will not need to have these certified.

You might need new police checks, Im sure you will need one for AFP but advice states that you should wait for CO to request this, as with medicals.

$1600 sounds high for the amount of work required for this.

Hi,

I have read this message. I am on 475. Is there anyway to lodge 887 visa application at the 18 months or earlier?! For your information, I am about to finish my 12-month full time work.

Cheers,

md8008

The 2 year residence and 1 year work requirements are time of application criteria hence if you apply before they are both met your application must be refused even if you have met them by the time it is decided.

No the IELTS is required for the 887. You would have completed the IELTS to get the 475/489 in the first place if you needed the points or had to confirm level of English language etc.

As far as I was told, to apply for the 887 post 475/489, you need to show that you have been living in a designated area (show rental agreement, utility bills etc) and prove that you have been working (provide payslips, tax information or ABN number and tax returns if self employed).

I have not completed my 475 (now 489) visa process. We are still waiting for a visa to be granted.

This is the link to DIAC's website giving out info and a list of the postcodes that you can live and work in WA.

Good Luck

Hi

I am on a 475.

You will have a maximum of 90 days from arrival to be living in a regional area. The visa can be revoked at any time if this doesn't happen.

I went ahead and rented a place in a regional postcode whilst I was still looking for work so that I could begin meeting the living requirement. i got in touch with the government / state as soon as I arrived giving them all my details. I have kept them updated in writing with my employment and living details.

I now live in one regional postcode and work in another regional postcode. This is allowed. I have a long commute though so will most likely move closer to the town that I work in. I recommend doing all you can to secure a job [even if it isn't in your specialism ] as soon as possible because UK pounds are quickly spent in Australia.

Save your rental agreements, utility bills, school records if you have them and pay slips. Save any documents or correspondence that will assist you in demonstrating you are complying with your visa conditions.

I was lucky to secure a job as there are many unemployed teachers in Queensland but other professions are still in demand

Best of luck

Hi milliem,

I am also in 475 and planning to validate visa in next month. I will validate my visa and come back. I will start my permanent life in WA only in June. Since I am out of Australia more than 3 months, does it affect my visa? Do they revoke my visa? I am bit confused with your comments. Please explain

Regards

I am sorry for any confusion. I meant that stay in a metropolitan area is restricted. They gave me 90 days to leave the metropolitan area after i took up residence in Australia, This does not apply when you validate, only when you contact the government to say you are now living in the state.

However it is worth remembering that the 3 year deadline to meet the conditions begins when the visa is validated, therefore you should try and move as soon as you can to allow yourself enough time.

hi milliem,

Thanks for the reply and advice. My situation does not allow me to move immediately. But, I read that 475 holders will get 1 year more when you change it to 489. Thats my hope, if I didn't meet criteria within 3 years. Thanks

Hi Millie, just wondering - where did you get the information on the 90 days leeway from date of arrival in Australia to move and settle down in regional Australia? I've tried searching for answers on Google and various different forums but could not find an answer. Is it an official statement from DIAC?

I have pm'ed you but if you but DIAC can revoke any visa in which the conditions are not being met. I was given that information by Queensland Government office that issued my state sponsorship
