cherith
Hi all! First post on here so we'll see how it goes! My husband and I and our 2 children are planning to move to Perth. My husband is a minister and is going to replace the retiring current minister. The church had never been a sponsor before but registered no problem. Then they applied to sponsor us. The application went in last April and they said we would hear at the end of August. Since then not a peep! Should alarm bells be ringing? Is there anything we can do to find out of there's a problem/ if we can speed things along? Or do we just have to wait out the bureaucracy? Thanks! blossom
Welcome to poms in oz! The main important question is what visa did you apply for? ENS or RSMS can take that long, especially as the rules changed in July so they had a big influx of applications and spent the whole of July just acknowledging those. If it was for a 457 visa then that would be a very long time. Are you using an agent?
cherith
It's RSMS. Not sure which subclass of the top of my head, not 457 though I'm pretty sure. We're not using an agent. The current minister has been handling most of this sponsorship stuff and just wanted to check that everything was normal! We were expecting a wait obviously but we didn't know about the change of rules until recently so couldn't understand why the end of August came and went with no word at all! Very frustrating! Naively I thought our youngest would be able to start school in new term but obviously that's out the window! The current minister suffers very bad health so we are anxious to get there so he can retire. Is there anything can speed it along? Not opposed to lobbying politicians, queuing for hours outside the embassy, ringing them up every day....etc etc etc! lol! If I thought it would do any good I would! Thanks for help! It would have been RSMS 119 that you applied for. Do you have a CO yet?? Have you been requested to do your medicals or Police Checks. Apart from phoning to find out whats happening not much else you can do but wait.
blossom
There is a rsms timeline thread. No there is nothing at all you can do to speed it up. Applying with an agent would have speeded it up if they applied decission ready for you. But too late for that now.

Case Officer When did you do your Police Checks, you only have 12 months to make first entry to Australia from earliest date of medicals or police checks, therefore you might need to do them again. For rsms visa you actually have six months from visa grant.

Not if your offshore "commence employment within six months of arriving in Australia or within six months of the visa grant if they are already in Australia"
blossom
Interesting, in my obsessive reading up on that visa, I totally glossed that part. Doh. Appologies
